Gumbo can really bring teh phunk, whereas Mango can really bring the phlubs. I’ll take phunk over phlubs anyday.

Gumbo takes this imo for its versions w/ horns and for the post 96 Jam vehicle it became. If this poll was put up in 95, Id prolly vote Mango.

^ it’s phish’s fault. They played like 6 Mango’s in 7 years or somrthing like that. During that time Gumbo became immortal!

Both are great songs. I went Mango based on lyrical merit.

Exactly. There are tons of reasons why people vote for songs! Lyrics, jamming potential, historical significance, favorite versions, etc etc. If “Ya Mar” were on here, I’d vote on it whether it was a 1 seed or 16 seed, simply because it was the first song I ever saw Phish perform live.

this one is really hard, but i’ll vote gumbo on it’s ability to go different places that mango can’t. first one i really had a hard time with. i hate to take mango out in the first round though.

I like me some Gumbo, but I’m not a huge fan of the funked out Gumbos. I vote Mango on the opening notes alone.
