I would probably vote for any segment of Fluffhead over the Lizards, and it’s not that I don’t love Lizards, but Fluffhead is, compositionally, one of Trey’s best pieces of work ever. I know it had it’s share of flubs and lackluster performances, but it is only because it is such a challenging piece that Phish can’t even get it right all the time. It is so good that Phish couldn’t even play it. Think about that.
I want to see the mighty YEM go down in the hands of Fluff.
Gotta stick up for The Lizards. The second part of this song, where it drops down to just Mike and Fishman, and Trey eventually starts to play…oooh it gives me chills more than Fluffhead ever could.
I don’t think that complexity necessarilly means good. Fluff’s alright, but I think that in certain ways the writing is a little clumsy. YEM and Reba are both really inspired and well written. IMO, Fluff’s really inspired, but not very well written. Just as Guyute is very well written but completely uninspired.
Lizards = Highly inspired, very well written.

This is a tough choice. If I were to see a show today I’d want to hear a Lizards more than a Fluff… just because the Fluff peaked long ago and the Lizards outro is timeless.
Now if I were to vote feeling the way I did after seeing my first Fluffhead (nostalgia) there would be no question, fluff hands down. In fact I still love that memory of Trey “acting” out fluff on stage. I was totally smitten 
But yesterday is not today.
If I was voting based on what song would better represent what and who and why phish then fluff would get the vote too. But I’m voting on what songs I like better than.
However the beginning of Lizards has never thrilled me where the whole of Fluff is one big teaching on how the be a fluffhead. So there fluffy baby.
I should vote against the song that took down Halley’s, but that’s in the past now - Lizards!

I went w/The Lizards. I think it’s an incredibly well-written piece of music, all ten minutes of it.
Fluffhead is unquestionably more accomplished and complicated. Normally that’d go a long way towards my vote, but I simply am a lot more fond of the Lizards as a song.
Although there were lots of Lizards where I felt like Trey sang it too fast, and some of the melody’s notes would just not be there anymore on the stage~! Like, “He said I come from the land of darkness” … that last syllable, most times, he doens’t sing a D note like he did in the early versions … he just kinda trails off, more spoken than sung. I used to feel like Lizards really suffered for that stuff on stage. So I stick w my early versions when it comes to that song. If I hear that D enough times I suppose I won’t mind as much when it’s not there.
Anyway yeah Lizards~!
