Echoes

This one is for all you Pink Floyd fans, and don’t say that you aren’t Pink Floyd fans you dirty rotten stoners.

Some time around christmas 2001 I bought Echoes, and at the time I thought that it was a an amazing album, and because of this album I eventually fell in love with the band and collected all of their albums. But with every album I bought I fell out of love with Echoes a little bit more, and realized that there were so many bad floyd songs on it, and so many good songs didn’t make the cut. Which brings me to my question, if you were in charge of this album what would you have done differently. Without Changing the number of songs…but assuming that it is a magical extralong CD

This is mine.

I’m a fan of echoes in general, the way your voice reverberates off objects. I love me some reverberation.

There is not a bad Pink Floyd song inbetween Piper and The Final Cut.

Yep.

^Of course, in the strict sense of the word “bad”. But I think Harpua was indicating songs he doesn’t particularly like. Are you telling me, Will Robinson, that you like EVERY PF song ever recorded? http://www.moviewavs.com/php/sounds/?id=bst&media=WAVS&type=Movies&movie=Princess_Bride&quote=inconceivable.txt&file=inconceivable.wav

Quite frankly, being raised on PF from the early days, I thought their biggest selling album was a sellout, and there were many songs between the beginning and end of that album that we personally, meh.

Atom Heart Mother contained some OK songs as well, and I was never a big fan of The Wall, truth be told. And yet, PF is in my top three favoritest bands because of the incredibleness of the songs that I do like.

The problem with Meddle is that Echoes is such a killer song that all of the other songs on that album pale in comparison. Put some of those songs on UmmaGumma, for instance, and they become A list right away.

Geez, maybe I should keep my most despised Phish songs to myself.

Mine:

Astronomy Domine
Lucifer Sam
Matilda Mother
Flaming
Pow R Toc H
Take Up Thy Stehescope and Walk
Insterstellar Overdrive
The Gnome
Chapter 24
The Scarecrow
Bike

in would just exchange the two discs for Meddle and Dark Side

I supose that I misspoke. and I agree that there was not a bad song while Waters was in the band. My Opinion si that the first BAD song that Pink Floyd ever recorded was “Dogs of War”

But what I am saying is that there were so many songs that were not “Best Of” quality.

Also I wonder what Fony’s most despised phish song is suddenly.

off the top of my head, Meatstick is pretty high up there. Oooo ooooo, Shocks the brain

Yep.

Momentary Lapse of Reason is a big pile of you know what… and Division Bell is good.

But I always imagine that Pink Floyd wrote ALBUMS. I seriously like everything from San Tropez to The Grand Visier’s Garden Party to Pigs on a Wing to Outside The Wall and so on and so on.

It is also what I grew up on… and while I do not listen as much as I used to… it all is very special to me.

I don’t understand how AHM got overlooked. I mean there are 4 songs that could have made the cut. (I like Alans Psychedelic Breakfast, but can understand why it didn’t make the cut)

And Obscured By Clouds, although a soundtrack is still great. “Free Four” “Wots…uh the deal” “The Gold its in the…” “Burning Bridges”…

And Music from the film more… I could go on and on, but i am sure that you catch my drift. My Toyko Drift

I agree with everything you said except Division Bell…I can’t listen to non-Waters floyd…I’ll take solo Waters over Floyd without Waters.

^ I actually like the Division Bell. But then again I also “like” “A Momentary Lapse of Reason” (despite the fact that I have said that pink floyds first down right bad song is on it, and the fact that I have called it a momentary lapse of talent more than once) I know that I am going to get rocks and stones thrown at me for this but i probably listen to it more than I listen to “Works” or “Relics”

Division Bell is excellent.

Works and Relics are both “best of” stuff.

I think… right?

yeah they are both compilation albums, but i know alot of people who really like relics, it is where you find Careful With That Axe, Eugene.

You’re damn right. I’ve been fighting the fight in favor of post-Roger Floyd for a long time now. Maybe it’s me but Rogers “The Wall” era stuff was great but wasn’t very Pink Floydish…almost too much emphasis on effects and lyrics and not enough on the actual music. Hearing the Final Cut makes you realize that Rogers was kind of losing his edge by the end. Division Bell is awesome…it’s easily one of my favorite Floyd albums behind Atom Heart Mother and Saucerful.
