Esther has been my song of the week for about the past 2 weeks. I just can’t get enough of it. It’s fucking brilliant.
for those of you to discover esther. do yourself a fvor. just listen to the junta version. one of treys best compositions imo.
^exactly, that’s the version I’ve been in to lately. The way the story goes along with the music is nothing but perfect.
You guys are right on about Esther. It is genius. Probably the most vivid imagery I’ve ever imagined from sound or words.
This is one of those tunes where the studio version is probably better than any live versions. It’s so difficult to play so the live versions usually aren’t as crisp as in the studio. Maybe that’s just me.
Yep. I agree. Crisp is a perfect word for that whole album (with teh exception of the really early live tracks–not so crisp but still good, especially Sanity).
i just wrote this in another thread, but the clifford ball version of esther is exceptional imo. and yes, i agree with everyone: a beautiful, beautiful song.
I totally agree with that statement. It sounds SOOOO much better on Junta than it does anywhere else. Maybe becuase that rythym is just so perfectly executed.
Yup. I do like the vegas 00 version where they keep playing the circus theme in the intro.
blah.
i love the studio version because it’s a great story and neat composure, but the live versions make me want to pee myself.
It’s just one of those songs that you’ve really got to be INTO phish to get…I don’t think most people would call this their favorite song right from the start, but it really grows on you, and then it spreads…and then it starts burning, and then I start peeing blood…wait, maybe that isn’t Esther…should I go see a doctor?
yes. and ask for the penicillin.
HAHAHA, wow.
esther is certainly an acquired taste, but one of the most delectable that phish studio has to offer.
It takes awhile to really love Esther. I have great memories of listening to the Live Phish 7 version until I puked.
^mad props ho
esther is the tits… but, most likely, has no tits. go figure.
I never thought of it that way.
i really, REALLY, don’t care for this song.
