Whats to say, My Dad (RIP) was a big jerry fan and back in the early 90’s I would always try and find phish songs to help him understand why I was so obsessed (my mom is hope less she will never get it). Finally got him into this one and he would play it over and over and over. Probably my favorite balad type song the boys ever rolled out, great lyrics tear jerking guitar solo I can’t say I have a favorite version because Everyone I here I love but probably the one I listen to the most is the post Mikes craziness from the second set of the Roxy 93, that one just lets you sit back and exhale after 45 minutes of intense jamming, great placement.
I love this song. A great early balllad.
A great song, and I was actually glad they opened the last set with it. It was like saying, “well, you know this sets not gonna be groundbreaking or anything, so lets just start it off with a beautiful song”-
I think the FEFY from Roxy '93 totally kills it…I never listen to anything from FEFY on in that show…I just feel like it completely terrorizes the set. Having said that, I normally love the song, and one of my favorites has got to be Deer Creek '96.
‘Terrorizes the set’ is a pretty horrible way of putting it.
12-1-94 is pretty good.
This and If I Could are on a similar level to me.
One of the few songs that I actually recognized at 9-23-00!
^
speaking of which, check out that particular version for rather gorgeous playing following the lyrical section!
easily my favorite phish ballad. i believe nugs.net has the first (?) live performance of it, with gordon stone on pedal steel. rediculously beautiful.
the way to play this one eluded me forever! i just couldn’t get it right for the longest time. when i finally stumbled upon the correct chord (some variation of C/F), it all came together. it’s actually really easy. i wish i could write an easy song this good.
I love when you respond to your own posts.
FEFY is pretty. What’s that one 00 show where Trey sings ‘fast enough for you!!’ during a Character Zero??
I lOOOOOOVE the guitar solo in this song. Just the style Trey plays it is so much more different than all the other stuff he plays. Real emotional song.

BUMP.
i just heard the Roxy FEFY (sadly, and very very gladly, today is the first time i’ve heard this show. it is, how you say, ummmm, eh, unbelievable) and it is some powerful stuff. the guitar on this one just absolutely sooooooaaars.
I love these lyrics. I also love the C6 arpeggio to the C at the beginning.
this song is soooooooo good. i especially like 11/30/95
One time, I had one of “those” moments while listening to the 8.13.96 version of this song.
mesmerizationization or something
