Favorite concerts of 2007

So what were some of your favorite concerts of 2007?

Catch a new band?
Old favorite?
Let’s hear about them!

Some of mine:

Michael Franti and Spearhead
I had such a great time at this show. He really has something to say.

Robert Randolph and the Family Band
If you don’t like pedal steel guitar you got some problems.

Xavier Rudd
What a musician. This was a really cool show that opened my eyes to what 1 person can create on stage.

Kinetix
A great young band out of Colorado. You should catch them if you can.

The U-Storm 1st Birthday celebration
This was such a great night. Members of Umphrey’s, Moe, Disco Biscuits, Yonder Mountain, New Monsoon, Jen Hartswick, some others I can’t think of.
Just a kick ass party that lasted close to 4 hours. Covers, originals, sing alongs.
One of the best shows of the year.

beastie boys…gala event.

i havent seen a show like that in ages.

10,000 Lakes Festival - String Cheese Incident, Ratdog, Zappa Plays Zappa
I can’t speak highly enough about what String Cheese pulled out that night in Minnesota. Huge funky jams, but light on the overly techno-y stuff. highlight of the weekend for me was probably the Joyful sound > Rollover > Naive Melody > Rollover

Ween - Edmonton/Calgary in November…
Picking one of these shows is much like picking a favorite child. You have the more free-spirited (aka drunken) Calgary show with the 30 minute LMLYP encoure or the more academically gifted (not quite so drunk) Edmonton show with the uber-tight playing and a Fluffy encore (which is the song I most wanted to hear all weekend).

Spearhead - Regina Folk Fest
I could actually hear the show from my front step, but being right up front and dancing my ass off during the two 15 minute drum solo breaks (the PA kept fucking up), in a public park with about 2000 other people was enough to make sneaking into the folk fest worth it to me.

Reverend Horton Heat
Definately brought the heat to Regina last winter. I’m not a big rockabilly guy, but this guy is one of the best at what he does, and I danced my feet to the bone that night.

Didn’t see near as many shows this year as in previous years, but still had a couple of great nights.
DSO in Boulder on nye…it was 2007 by the time the show ended
Page in Asheville
Asheville Music Jamboree
Echo Project, specifically Avett Brothers!

I barely saw any shows this year cuz my friends suck and chicken out of half the shows we originally planned to go to but a a few nice ones:

-Tom Petty w/ Trey opening - Trey was sweet. Tom was sweet

-Bob Segar - The crowd totally sucked since no one would stand or dance or anything but Bob was off the hook. I hear rumors that he may do a tour this summer at outdoor amphitheaters which would be off the hook

-Aerosmith - I’d never seen them live and I was very impressed.

Trey - What can I say? I loves me some Trey

Stevo

Trey

Travis

Neil Young

Modest Mouse

those actually might be the only four shows i saw this year. they were all great.

I see you followed my advice…

That has to be mine too for '07. They played a sick show in Denver, and everyone was dressed up.

honestly your post did sway me.

thank you, silly rabbit…but trix are for keds.

WEEN & PAGE respectivly!

oh yeah…page was great too.

I was pretty let down by Page’s solo band. Seeing him play (and seeing the show with my boy Brian (Gamecat 8-))) was good though I suppose.

MMW in May at a small festival in Minnesota was seck. Even though most of the people I talked to said it was one of the worst MMW shows they’ve seen, it was still fun seeing them in such an intimate setting.

For some reason Ratdog at 10k stands out to me, even though I walked away after the Terrapin and only heard the rest from a distance. Still I was impressed.

SCI Horning’s Hideout was quite the experience for me, even if they aren’t a particularly favorite band of mine, I still had a blast there, especially on the first night, 7.27.07 I believe.

Damn, I’m trying to think back to Bonnaroo and I can’t pinpoint one show that I really had a great time at. Cheese was really good there too I guess…that was probably the most intense night of the summer for me, haha.

Ween in Madison in October was fun…and then Panic the next night was dece.

I had just as much fun at a lot of local shows though…Down Lo, gold Standard, and Hyentyte, all Minneapolis bands, have all gotten me off this year.

I haven’t been to a show since the last time I was in the presence of my master: Obi dong. He showed me the farce and I was never the same.

I think that was Leo Kottke 2 winters ago in Stratham, NH. So that was the best show I’ve seen in the last 2 years. Which doesn’t really count.

That reminds me that Leo Kottke and Leon Redbone are coming to Fargo on March 21!!!

I gotta buy tickets for that pronto. I love Leo’s playing. I saw him in '05 at a small theater and it was a good time.

damn…you guys keep reminding me of shows i saw. i saw leo earlier this year…

I saw no shows this year, except for Rush … I think, anyway. I play most Friday nights, so does that count? … Guess not; I didn’t actually watch the shows.

But my favorite show of the year (although I didn’t actually go) is the Led Zep concert … I’m still all psyched that they did that.

Somebody’s hitting the philly scene hard.

Wow, beasties at penns landing? cool beans. I used to love the river blues and jambalaya jam.
