Taking into consideration only lyrics, which Phish studio album is your favorite?
Hmmm.
Probably Rift?
I was leaning towards Rift or Round Room.
I was going to say Rift or Roundroom as well…weird.
Rift is just so goddamned motherfucking good.
^ Yeah.
Round Room, on the other hand, is a platter full of lukewarm dog poo.
I couldn’t find a more appropriate picture, but i am pretty sure that this nails the point.

Jay what do you have against RR? I need specifics, or your argument holds no weight.
Rift and RR are both top contenders, but i’m always biased to SOTG, if only for the lyrics to Shafty. which are fucking awesome.
I feel I
never told you
the story of the ghost
With a few exceptions, I just get bored by those songs. RR and Undermind are still, perhaps unfairly, “Phish in decline” to me.
Fortunately, my “argument” isn’t one, so it needs hold no weight at all.
I gotta give the nod to Farmhouse…
Twist, Heavy Things, Bug, Sleep, Dirt, Sand, and Farmhouse all have great lyrics.
Hoist is probably my second favorite…or maybe Joy.
Undermind all the way… just kidding I think Joy
I…I…I think I’m going to cry.
^ Dude…you can’t have a Clint Eastwood avatar and make a post like that.
Holds up Round Room sign
Right turn, Clyde!
I think for me it’s a tie between Junta & Rift.
Rift is just a great lyrical ride, no matter how you slice it. Some of my favorite Tom Marshall lyrics. TWO Mike showings, and they’re both great lyrically IMO. My Friend, Maze, Rift, Sparkle all have lyrics that I really love.
Junta’s a whole different animal, having no Tom Marshall, but instead the Dude of Life in places, and lots of Trey with one classic Mike. I like the lyrics to Golgi, Foam, Dinner & a Movie, David Bowie, YEM. Those are all tunes that get shit for being silly or meaningless, but to me they’re incredible lyrics. But all those tunes are so unique and the lyrics are … I don’t know, just perfect to me. Bummed is what you are when you go out to your car & it’s been towed. Rabid victim martyr stranded level headed boy you better bend.
^ Yea I was shocked that Junta wasn’t mentioned until like the 18th post.
Nice bump of a 3-yr old thread, btw.
It was the quirky and unexpected lyrics from Junta that got me interested in Phish. Of course, it took a live show for my to become a phan, but we all know how different the 2 are.
