‘just relax, you’re doin’ fine…’ gets me thru every day
I was hooked and obsessed 10 years ago. Loooong before I ever saw them live, I was a phan. If I had never ever gotten to see them live (and there was a very heartbreaking moment in time that even though I knew they just HAD to return, i also knew that it was a possibility they would not) I still would have considered them the best band to have ever existed in The Milky Way. Just sayin’… you old schoolers always say people don’t understand until they see them.
You know what? I COMPLETELY understood. Furthermore, at my first show (Asheville), i definitely enjoyed myself (of course), but I remember thinking to myself (in disbelief) that my old recordings of the band had touched and moved me further than that experience ever could have. Of course, I’ve seen many shows now, and I have had an incredible time at each and every one, I’m thankful for my experience and perspective on the whole thing. I’m jealous of people that caught Phish back in the day, but I have all that music at my fingertips, AND an enormous sense of gratitude (not saying anyone else doesn’t) for the way Phish intersected into my existence. It’s hard to see your band go away, but dammmmmn it was pretty miserable wanting to be there at the end and seeing them go without ever experiencing it all live and personally. I’m rambling. Thanks to the Universe for Phish. I feel sorry already for all our grandkids’ kids.
Hold the wheel, read the sign… that’s right Trey! But then again, if you may swerve a bit, your’s and many others’ lives COULD change in incredibly positive ways! All of it was supposed to happen. Love you all!
One more thing, Junta was also my hooker, and GAW do I still LOVE IT!! I wish they would play YEM at that tempo someday… we all know how fast it can go…
But then again, if time were only part of the equation…
Yep, this is far and away my favorite phish lyric.
I did LOVE LOVE LOVE Strange Design when I first heard it @ Greatwoods.
It’s not on any studio album though, right?
It’s on the single for Free that was released in Europe. Sounds good too.
I concur about the Strange Design lyrics. Great stuff.
I also like “So toss away stuff you don’t need in the end, but keep what’s important and know who’s your friend.”
Now that the leaves turned to gold,
The moments all glow,
frozen and free from time.
And out here on my own,
I watch it ebb and flow.
Water your team, in a bee hive, I’m a-sent you.
And the peacefulness dreaming dreams brings…
Fences are filters that purify our souls.
Obstacles are stepping stones that lead us to our goals.
It’s “guide us”! ![]()
I’m looking thru this last page thinkin’, I guess there’s plenty for everyone to like. ![]()
Sorry!

[PS, I do like ^that bit from Light though!]
this isn’t who it would be, if it wasn’t who it is
and so fell the weight we can never lift… behind us the darkness between us the rift
not a lyric per se but close enough.
