Favorite MSG show

I’m going 12/29/1997 here… real though though. It’s a shame they didn’t come here in 1999 or 2000. The 29th at MSG (or anywhere, for that matter) is always MONEY. By far my favorite day in Phish history… '94 is great, '95 is better, '96 is among the best of that year, '97 has a DWD/Bowie/Possum/Tube/YEM setlist along with typical late '97 awesomeness, '98 kicks ass, you get my point. Hard to lay off some of those other shows, especially the next night. Ask my tomorrow and I may have to go with 12/30.

12.29.97

Three One Nine Five

Indeed.

12/29/97: I was there and the main thing I remember is Mike’s bass sounding super weird and all fuzzed out the whole show. DWD 2nd set opener was sick. Flufff, Golgi, Tube, YEM all great. I was also at the NYE '02 show. I had a blast but I never hear it getting any props- barely a mention. Maybe I’m “out of the loop”. Was it bad? I was just excited to have them back so I think I’m biased but I also have the discs and listen to them all the time. A sweet Divided Sky.

can’t get into Divided Sky at ALL without the Ross… so tainted sounding.

i personally prefer 95 to any and all

One Two Two Nine Nine Eight

12/29/97. It was a tough choice, but Bowie>Possum, Fluff, Antelope, YEM, TUBE (to name a few) did me in.

You could argue that 12-31-95 is the perfect Phish show.

Could, mind you.

12.29.98 is really damn good too.

I’d say the top 4 are 12.29.98, 12.31.95, 12.29.97 and 12.30.97

12/31/95 is classic Phish. No question about it, one of their best shows. 12/30/97 was alot of fun though…

Yes.

When I think about the all-time perfect/classic Phish show. I think of 12/31/95.

End of story.

Yeah me neither. On the poll i went w/ 12-29-97.

my head feels lumpy

12/29/97 was my second show. I have to hear it again. Only because, 12/30 was colossal. If I had to trade, I’d see 12/30 over 12/29.

That said, 12/29/98 was unbelievable too.

Imo, 1998-12-29 was the best 2 set show they ever played. So glad I was there.

12-29-98 imo is the best show ever at msg. It might be the best two set show ever. Just incredible energy and fluent improvisation. The whole second set is absolutely mindblowing.
