It’s lyrics like these and stash for example (Apple toast bed heated fur blanket rat) that makes me think sometimes Phish chooses lyrics solely based on the rhythmic pattern or sound of the words more-so than what the words really mean.

I’ve always loved the poetic simplicity of:
Was it for this, my life I sought?
Maybe so.
Maybe not.
^^that’s one reason I appreciate phish’s musical talent more than any other band. other bands write what they want to say and then add (borring) music to go with it. phish writes the music and then the lyrics enhance the music. either way, interesting lyrics make for a more fun song.
