Favorite Post-Hiatus Reworked Song

Hmmmmm…The thing is, I don’t think they re-worked many songs. Some songs they played better post-hiatus as far as jamming them out, though.

The songs that come to mind right now are Gotta Jibboo and Harry Hood, because they would take Hood out for some serious improvisation during the summer '03 tour (maybe earlier??). Jibboo just has better jams to me even though it was played less frequently. Those groovy, loop’d out '99 and '00 Jibboo’s are cool but they all sound more or less the same. Now take the funktastic, rocking Chicago '03 Jibboo and you’ve got yourself a winner!!

I agree with the “Free” and “Boogie On,” that’s some serious funk.

To me, off the top of my head, I can’t really think of a post-hiatus song that sounds better than pre-hiatus.

true, no songs got 're-worked".
probably not since Dirt in '00 was a song really re-worked.

but my vote goes to Glide from Coventry.
i LOVE the new arrangement!
a

the arrangement of oh shit, i don’t know how to play this one anymore, or oh shit, im so fucked up my fingers don’t work

And when they changed the intro to Twist!

As far as reworked for post hiatus the only thing that comes to mind is the intro to Ghost. They dropped the loop and Mike ended up starting things off. I much prefer the loop started ones from 99 and such. Those really got me pumped!

I like the reworked Grind on Undermind. That’s all I can think of right now.

I don’t really agree with any other response to this thread. There are some really funky Free’s in '97/'98 and some at least one monster funky Boogie On in '99. Hood is at it’s best in '92 in my head. There are some good PH Jiboo’s, but I like the summer '00 Jiboos the best.

My 2 favorite Piper’s are both PH, but I don’t think the arrangement changed at all, it’s just the improv changed.

How dare you?

Sorry…maybe that didn’t come across right. What I meant was, you guys are fucking tools and have no idea what you are talking about.

^^haha jesus Olfactory.

“reworked” is a pretty specific word. I suppose SASS was sort of reworked during post-hiatus when they dropped the intro part that was played in summer '03 and was track 1 on Undermind.

I agree Mike using the funkier effects gave some added oomph to songs like Boogie on, Free…but no pre-hiatus songs were really re-worked, unless I’m forgetting one.

Could you please stop beating around the bush and tell us how you feel?

HAHAHAHHA!!

I guess “reworked” wasn’t the best word to use. I just was trying to think of any song that i liked post-hiatus more than pre and couldn’t really think of one. Thats all.

And pre-hitaus they reworked LimbXLimb and i think that worked out for the best. I miss the long drawn out intro to Piper, that was some sweet sweet sound.

yeah, '98 had a lot of reworked tunes…
LXL
Ghost
Vultures
H20 Sky
Oblivious Fool>Shafty
and
BEK>Moma
a

I need someone to rework my balls! Spooks, you there? :o :o

I miss BEK!!

Katy Funked Moma in the ass, hard!!

Gotta Jibboo and Harry Hood are the correct answers!

I think Piper as well was reworked, and there are some great post hiatus Pipers…

i doubt they “re-worked” Harry Hood after nearly 20 years…
a

No, like I said, they just jammed it out.

I agree with the Piper comments. I’ve read a lot of reviews from '99 and '00 where people just despise the long, drawn out Piper intro, but I absolutely love it. The Farmhouse version (Oswego, I think??) gives me chills every time.

Didn’t they rework Twist?

i’d say ghost was reworked, as in “played differently”. the airy quality and sparseness of the song itself is replaced with much more nasty rock-riffing from Trey, gone are the loops and they definately sped it up a little. the jams also tend to be much more on the rocking side, i think reflecting the different way of playing the song.

it’s just a testament to how fascinating Phish’s music is. it seems any song could just keep subtly changing and evolving, especially thier latter-half of the 90’s stuff.

i am listening to this particular Jibboo at the moment, and it is wwwwwwwwickit titssssssssssssssssssss to say the least!
