Believe it or not, I just got this album…thus completing my studio phish collection. I have only listened to it a couple of times, but I really love Silent in the Morning on this album. It has a lot to do with the fact that I was listening to it with my girlfriend and she made the comment during that song “This song is really annoying.”…I said “Why?”…she responded “There are too many instruments”…I then realized that there was this huge wall of sound coming out of my stereo, that I wouldn’t normally hear when listening to SITM. I just said “You’re crazy” and listened intently, and man that is beautiful production.

I finally had to throw my copy away as it was scratched to unplayability. The last time I had my copy and accordingly, the last time I listened to it in it’s entirety was 1998 or 1999. At the time I loved the wedge and sparkle, with rift closing in on their heels. I’d have to give it a fresh listen before deciding my favorite. Rift was my favorite album until I heard Junta, but it’s still a close, CLOSE 2nd.

This was the first Phish album I bought new the day it came out. I gotta give some love to Maze. Honorary second place to Horn, love that solo, nice and jazzy.

I realize that leaves Silent/Horse, It's Ice, Horn, Sparkle, Fast Enough & both Lengthwises. But hey, I was already up to seven that I couldn't choose between. It's Ice and Sparkle get most honorable mentions in my private and imaginary award ceremony for Phish songs or whatever it is I'm supposed to be doing here.
