Ahh the funk album… what better way to show Phish’s new sound than the “Moma Dance”. If I put that on now, my feet would probably start dancing uncontrollably.
Guyute!!!
Limb By Limb. It’s just so perfectly arranged. Doesn’t sound like anyone else on the planet.
Gotta go with Ghost. What a song!
I say Ghost with a close second of Moma, the cow funk is the heat!
The Moment Ends…The Moma Dance!
I love the whole album!!!
damn. tough. mo, mo… mo…moma…ghost. damn. tough.
“Ghost” and “Moma Dance,” without question. I have to think hard for a 3rd favorite, but if I had to choose I’d go with “Wading in the Velvet Sea” simply because it is beautiful to listen to.
i think the verdict is in. ghost or moma dance.
“Guyute”, but I will say that “Limb By Limb” is a close second…
Roggae!!!
I think that roggae has some of the best phish lyrics “if life were easy and not so fast i wouldn’t think about the past” Guyute is musicly the best song, in my opinion, it is nothing special when it comes to lyrics but the music is very good. The Sies de Mayo version of this song i enjoy very much. The moma dance is fantastic i think it is the song on the album that showcases their newly developed(at the time) funky sound the best.
I love this album i have such a hard time thinking of a favorite but will blurt out the first one that comes into mind and that is…roggae.
wait no no i have to say birds of a feather…i love birds of a feather whenever i go to a major event of any type i automaticly think of this song and if i am with someone i think of the specific lyrics “its not an experiance if you can’t bring someone else along.” and the obvious birds fo a feather are flocking outside"
I love this album

This album is very fascinating, both lyrically and musically.
Lyrically, my favorite on the album is “Birds of a Feather.” You can view it as a sharp criticism that is everything conformist. I find humor in that.
Musically, it’s a tough call. “Ghost” is in my top-3 all-time of songs I want to (and wish I would have) seen live. “Roggae” is beautiful b/c of it’s simple jamming. It’s a song where I love hearing the jam on the end b/c it’s the same thing every time but I LOVE to hear.
moma dance, without a doubt
I gotta go with Ghost (it is the song that got me into that Phish funk sound), but right on the heels of it is Birds of a Feather(those guitar rifs just rock so hard)
Ghost. Just think of all of the great jams that came out of that groove. Birds of a Feather is also great, good bouncy feel.
Moma Dance
A great funk, and the lyrics still trip with my head even tho I know what they are
i do agree that moma dance and ghost take the cake, but what about meat? it’s short, but its a sweet song with a funked out groove, i’ve been diggin it a lot lately listening to summer 98
Limb by Limb. Fishman’s drumming is so fucking technical, it’s insane. Trey’s soloing, Mike’s loose bass work, & Page’s flowing keys all come together on this album to make a great feel good tune, with damn good lyrics.
ghost… meat… moma dance- they all are some of my all time favorites and always will be
