File conversions and other questions

I’ve just gotten back into downloading torrents from etree and am in need of a free converter so I can put some shows on CDs and not have to listen to the FLACs with VLC Media Player.

Anyone have a preference for a FLAC > Wav/mp3 converter? What about SHN > Wav?

Also, I’ve been thinking about downloading some of these due to the ease of access:

any personal favorites in there?

Thanks, sorry if this is in the wrong place.

I use FLAC Frontend

And I use mkw for SHN

And for all things mp3, I use Exact Audio Copy

This is from the FAQ on the Exact Audio Copy website, and I’m putting this here cuz I remember this part of it slowing me down.

[i]I want to compress audio tracks to MP3s, what do I need besides Exact Audio Copy?

Remember that EAC does not supply a MP3 codec; you may use the LAME, Gogo or the BladeEnc DLL

traders little helper is a good program for easy flac>wav and shn>wav conversion. i use lamexp 1.01 for converting to mp3.

i use dBpoweramp Music Converter for everything because its the easiest ive found and its an all in one program. also if youre converting to mp3/4 it gives you options on the bit rate you want to convert to.

for listening purposes download winamp. they have a codec for nearly every kind of file (FLAC, SHN, etc.) already installed!

www.winamp.com

btw, they have awesome visuals (check out milkdrop!)

i use traders little helper to convert flac and shn to wav

and you can make mp3’s of wavs with itunes

I want to toss in a little ad for XLD, it’s for macs and it’s super easy to go from FLAC to ALAC (lossless which plays in itunes) and add the song to itunes. for SHN I use xACT > wav -> XLD > ALAC

and once I’ve got an ALAC, it’s easy to use itunes to go to mp3/4. and ALACs work in ipods!

FLAC is falling behind (and SHN is already miles back)
