Fishman Tunes

3…His Barrett covers are a large part of what got me into phish…I just thought “who the hell covers Syd Barrett? And with a vacuum?!”…what I would have given to be a phish show with a Fish segment.

Favorite - Tie Cracklin Rosie/Terrapin

Least - Can’t think of one…I love 'em alll…I guess the Doors cover they did, what Doors song did he cover?

EDIT

Thought of one…Gettin Jiggy Wit It…no good…no damn good.

Favorite - “Purple Rain”

Least Favorite - “Bike”

3!!!

favorite - i wanna be like you

least favorite - purple rain

The doors song is Touch Me if thats the name, it’s on that lp release from new hampshire with the horns, it makes me crack up every time i hear it.

Yeah!, come on, come on, come on, come on
Now touch me, baby
Cant you see that I am not afraid?
What was that promise that you made?
Why wont you tell me what she said?
What was that promise that you made?
Now, Im gonna love you, till the heavens stop the rain
Im gonna love you
Till the stars fall from the sky for you and i
Come on, come on, come on, come on
Now touch me, baby
Cant you see that I am not afraid?
What was that promise that you made?
Why wont you tell me what she said?
What was that promise that you made?
Im gonna love you, till the heavens stop the rain
Im gonna love you
Till the stars fall from the sky for you and i
Im gonna love you, till the heavens stop the rain
Im gonna love you
Till the stars fall from the sky for you and i

Maybe this song was played only if Fish was on E and wanted to be touched, i have no clue

I believe “Touch Me” was played because they had a horn section.

The horns are rich on ‘The Soft Parade’, a fantastic yet poppy album by The Doors. The title track is one of my favorite songs ever.

Always liked the reggae-d up lenghtwise with trey on the kit, classic

favorite- purple rain
least fav- great gig in the sky

Favorite=Love You
Least=Fooled around and fell in love

I hardly care what song he does. I just want the vaccuum solo. Or the trombone solo. Or the friggin bagpipes. Whatever.

I have learned to seriously appreciate that stuff. I think it’s both amazing and funny to hear this dude play any instrument other than drums.

Anyone hear that trombone solo on Colorado '88 “I Didn’t Know” yet? Real funny. Actually he busts it out again during “McGrupp”, and again during … what is it … ‘Sanity’ probably.

Maybe my favorite solo I’ve ever heard him do is on the Vegas DVD. What a performance.

My only complaint about the Fish tune is that sometimes it could stand to be a smidge shorter. 8/11/04 is a great example of that too, btw … I was there and it was funny and all, but it was long.

Still I’ll go w/ 3. [I about fell down laughing when Mike said that scale of 2 to 3 bit.]

3

fav - cracklin rosie or terrapin

least - was tubthumping one? god damn that was a whole lot of awful. if not i guess ill go with bike but i always enjoy a fishman tune.

i like his mando solos when they do the bluegrass tunes, the one from the jeff mosier dvd is hillarious it’s just scale, he goes up, he goes down, lasts about 4 seconds, best fish solo

^ I guess I didn’t get that joke…is that from the Colorado release? I really hope mine came today…did everyone else get theirs?

Fav - Sexual Healing

Least Fav - Everything else

How can you not like the Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It??? “in the winter or tha…SUMMERTIME”

And I think Tubthumping was the whole band with Tom singing. Funny shit!

Favorite- Wanna Be Like You

Least- Fooled Around and Fell In Love

A scale from 2-3? HAHAHAHA!!

3!

You mean the 2 to 3 joke? That’s from 8/11/2004. Trey asks Mike what he thinks of the Fishman tunes as an overall show segment, and Mike’s reply is “Phish should stay together and work out our problems together as a team.”

I mean, he said “On a scale of 2 to 3 I give it a 3.”

Johnny B. Fishman - Vermont’s Second Best Trombone Player.

Favourite - Love You, nice and jaunty

Worst - Bike, too slow, no energy.

oh yea, a nice suspicious minds with the cape was great too…

I’d like to clarify that i would always take a Crosseyed before a Trey on Drums Fish tune! Just my opinion though!

i’m going to be in the minority here. i LOVE fish as a drummer and even songs he sings from BEHIND the kit, but i don’t need to hear anymore vacuum solos or him belting out love you. as a novelty they were fine, but i just plain got tired of it.
