Foam

Discuss!

NO POSTS ABOUT FOAM?! C’mon! It’s an amazing, complex song!

now we have two!! I LOVE foam also.

Foam’s not actually a Mike composition is it? Has anyone heard him do it with the Duo…good shit. Make’s you realize how much Page really does shine when Phish plays it.

A Trey tune.

no doubt about it: no version after 1996 can hold a candle to any version before '96

Is it safe to say that this is Phish’s most complex, difficult song to get through?
From a musician’s standpoint?

The other ones I can think of would be “Reba” and “Divided Sky”? Maybe “Glide?”

8-3 & 8-9-97 disagree.

I think Mound and Fluffhead are far more complex than Foam. Divided Sky & Reba are both more complex than Glide by quite a lot … but I’d say Divided Sky and Reba are in the Foam ballpark.

Foam’s tough because the sharps and flats move with every chord change. And there’s lots of those. I love hearing Page and Trey solo on this when they cover all those changes well. Lizards is like that for Page too … after the big “whoa!” part, Page just always seems to keep up with those key signature changes.

thelot, I agree. Both of those post-96 versions are excellent.
I read this post today, and I checked to see if I had either one of these shows to listen to the Foam. I have both shows. Puts a smile on my face. (We comment on shows constantly here on the OKP. I’m slowing downloading/trading shows and listening to them. Most of the time I don’t have the shows that are referred to.)

Mound is nowhere near as complex as Reba, Fluffhead, Divided Sky, etc.

I like Mike and the Duo’s version of Foam. Not a big Foam fan though…did they ever do Foam post hiatus? no right?

12-29-03

yes, 12.29.03 AND 3.1.03. They did it at one of the Hampton '03 shows too if I remember right.

^
oh yeah, 1-3-03, preceding the debut performance of “Pebbles and Marbles”

^^ you are correct sir

Why?? I always felt Foam screamed out for jamming material. I guess Mike did it with the Duo, but still…PHISH.

I would’ve LOVED to see them play this more post-hiatus. Hell, even pre-hiatus; I don’t think they even played it at all in '99.

It’s one of my favorite phish songs.

the 12/29/94 runaway jim>foam jam makes me bounce around with joy every damn time.

I listened to that one today while driving to class. I don’t listen to that show enough for some reason. It’s a rare time when it is on.

But that segue is SO fluid!

because they performed it with such rarity that they never really could NAIL it. we’re talking about nailing it. you know.

Check out the SOAM from that show.

God damn. ;D
