G.R.A.B poll

i’d have to agree with most of that…dou+gordo was the shiz fo sho…even though i still think grab is phenomenal, grb was prob MORE phenomenal (i told you i am a shitty critic…but i do actually think both configs are totally sweet).

grb really left room for marco to go nuts. i mean, he fucking NAILED YEM! (in his own style of course)

my vote goes to “good, but not nearly as good as Mike w/ the Duo”

i was right in the middle of the tent for that show!!! one of the best of 'Roo last year…that Mike’s encore was complete insanity, crowd singing and all!!! mike just gels with those two so well and marco definitely has all the tools to carry the lead when he needs to.

but, i digress…i love GRAB and think that the potential for this project is unmeasurable…however, it’s not gonna last (which is fine), but it was fun. all of them will take something great from this tour and be better people/musicians because of it.

Good.

They sound alright, but I don’t really think its gonna go anywhere.
The Duo needs to do their thing and Trey needs to figure out what he wants post-Phish. Mike has his Ramble Dove & stuff w’ Leo. I don’t think GRAB will be long lasting.
Trey seems to be everywhere. Oysterhead, Grab, Solo, etc…
I would like him to settle down and pick a path.
I would like him to play solo acoustic. I really like that the best.
Kinda go the Bruce Springsteen route.

I got this disc in the mail on monday and it has not left my CD player yet. It is awesome stuff.

^i’d highly recommend checkin out some of the stuff from Dec. as well…i mentioned them playing YEM above, and i know the one at the AC Borgata was particularly tasty ;D

i got the NYE Gordo + Duo on DVD in a vine on here. it’s HOT!!!

i can trade or b&p for it if anyone wants.

The DUO was awesome but i thought Trey wasnt really on.

this I would definitely agree with!

i’m gonna vote either good or great though.

i’m very plaesed with what i’ve heard. they realy surprised me. they could be phenoinal if they keep at it. i vote great.

got to the superjam during casey jones at bonnaroo. what a way to start then a surprise stealth show. shit had awesome energy. also caught them at bethel woods. what an awesome place that is. right on the original grouds of woodstock.

i dig em

ok, I wish I could add another vote, it would be PHENOMENAL. I just got done listening to Cleveland, OMG…I can’t believe what I’m hearing!!!, these guys are the heat…fuckin kick ass, big bass, bigger drums, stellar…UFB

I’m in the dark…somebody, anybody! enlighten me on this whole G.R.A.B project/ or tour that happened

G.R.A.B.

Gordon
Russo
Anastasio
Benevento

first off, I voted ‘‘great’’ because GRAB was totally tubular (saw them but once in '06 @ bonnaroo. still drooling), but it wasn’t a proper PHISH reunion…sigh.

Grab toured with Trey and mike in '06. it’s an acronym for Gordon, Russo, Anastasio and Benevento. All these members and Jon Fishman recorded Trey’s Bar 17 (read 'bout it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bar_17).

Actually (and i think this might deserve it’s own thread), GRAB’s keyboardist, Marco Benevento (http://www.marcobenevento.com/), has a new solo album out that I’m really diggin’ now. It’s call Invisible Baby, and Trey Anastasio auctually wrote the banjo riff on the track “bus ride.” Hear it here: http://www.myspace.com/invisiblebaby

If you wanna know moar, you can check out http://hyenarecords.com/marcobenevento (that’s where i gots mah “facts”).

tl;dr: I’m really am diggin’ benevento rite now

Haven’t really heard anything from GRAB until today. I downloaded some shows and am now giving them listen. Not bad. I need more time to give an honest review. I’m just now listening to the Raleigh Show. This was the first gig right?? 6/28/06?

Billie Jean jam at Cleveland FTW.

I say FAIR. I saw GRB in NOLA latenight after jazzfest and it was sooooo much better than GRAB, no contest. I love Trey, but was pretty sure he wouldn’t fit into this mix. Mike + Duo was so good and I worried he would be too much, and imo he was. He never really tapped into the experimental potential that he had on stage with him and quite frankly, seemed to treat them as a back up band. The show I saw in ATL was almost all Trey songs and that was very disappointing. I wish Mike would play with marco and joe again, but Trey needs to sit it out

^ Yeah I’ll have to try and find some Mike and the Duo shows. I listened to the Raleigh show yesterday and it wasn’t bad, but like you said dominated by Trey songs and pretty much Trey dominated the sound. I’m going to listen to more, but I’d like to seek out some GRB shows too.

So did Russo and Benevenuto break up for good? Did they have a falling out or are they just doing there own thing? I know Russo’s doing the Furthur thing and I’ve seen a Marco playing with some other guys. Just curious.
