General thoughts

Farmhouse is second favorite Phish studio album. It was my first Phish music experience (outside of the Radio City Music Hall show from '00 that was on VH1) and I think it has the best mix of ballads and jam songs. For whatever reason, I am absolutely addicted to Twist, Piper, and First Tube. On the other side of the spectrum, Dirt and Sleep give me CHILLS when I hear them.

I really think this is probably my favorite, start-to-finish phish album. Again, sand sucks, but it is at least well-placed. No studio phish has the kind of feeling that this album has.

I don’t have any beef with farmhouse. It was probably there most pop friendly album, Farmhouse, Heavy things, gotta Jibboo. but it is a good album. I especially like bug.

Great album. Second album i got, and really prompted me to get more.

I think the album overall is great and listening to some of the songs I love with the studio sound is great. Dirt, Twist, and Bug has always been one of my faviorts since the time they started rotating into their live mix.

^ Very True!!

I can’t believe I haven’t posted in this thread yet…

Farmhouse is definitely a great album. It’s the first Phish album I ever bought, and it turned me on the their sound. “Gotta Jibboo,” as I’ve mentioned before, is one of their very finest album-sounding songs. I love it. If I were to absolutely blare 2 of their songs all the time, it would be that one and “Theme From the Bottom” off of Billy Breathes.

This album has a sound that is familiar to the hard-cores but strong enough to pull in the newbies. I was one of those newbies.

yeah…what gives with the SAND hatin’ ?

that song would melt yer face if you saw 'er live…and i’m sure many of you did…but respect the heavy shit…

ps…treys “whooooo-ooooooh, whooooooo-ooooh” loop rules the face!

I don’t mind me a good Sand… I have just been pickin’ it as my LEAST favorite… I do have to admit that I had to be in the right state of mind for the "whooooo-oooooh"s… and I know of twice where I was not in that frame of mind, and it knocked the song down a few rungs for me…

Does anyone know if anything about studio sessions (outtakes) that exist for Farmhouse. I know they are out there but have never seen anything of them. Any info (links, track lists) much appreciated

i think this was the album that got me really into Phish, besides all of the shit i downloaded of Kazaa. Bug is probably my absolute favorite song in this album. Freshman year of college I used to come home really stoned and wasted outta my mind and listen to this album and I was in heaven!

My first official Phish album and most def. my favorite. just full of great songs.

The songs from this album are some of he best in the live repetoire. I think Piper, Twist, Sand, First Tube are all sick live tunes, and Farmhouse, Bug are tunes that i love in the middle of sets (not to slow down to, but it gives you time to pack one up to a great tune). Great times have been had during these tunes for sure.

Many great qualities in this album. Phish is well-produced, but definiitely not overproduced. I get a sense of maturity from this album, and that the band were able to able to harness some of that live energy in the studio, like they felt truly comfortable recording. The songs don’t sound “canned”, like some songs on previous albums. The blend of musical stylings from the band is apparent, as usual, but they’ve got their own identity in their sound and playing. The energy flows very well song to song, taking the listener many places, but with a keen sense of flow. I like the import version with Driver and Mist to bring one down at the end after monster grooves on Sand and First Tube.

I don’t get why so many people dislike sand… the one-two punch of sand and first tube is great, eben though they don’t seem like they fit in with the rest of the album to me.

i so agree. the songs sound so well together and are pretty damn sweet.

The first half of the album is better than the second half, but “First Tube” proves to be a raging, appropriate closer!!

jesus how can farmhouse be all your favourite albums by phish…i mean…a picture of nectar, junta

i dont think this thread is intended to say our favorite album is Farmhouse…merely what we think are the strenghts of Farmhouse…there are several other threads discussing “favorite album” status

My question is how can this be the first album so many people heard
