VERY complete album. Very excellent live renditions, especially in 2000 and 2003.
Farmhouse is my favorite album, hands down. Ghost follows a close second…but Farmhouse still takes the cake for me.
Story of the Ghost… my fav
phirst song I ever heard by Phish was farmhouse, and I didn’t know it was them, I liked it so I looked at more and now I am a member of this board… so this album started it all, then YEM!!!
Live Jibboo is pretty rad. Farmhouse isn’t my favorite album but it fits well with the other material
I think this is the most emotional of all their albums. “Dirt” and “Farmhouse” are incredibly affecting and beautiful. And I think “Twist”, “First Tube”, and “Heavy Things” are all really kickin’ tunes. A good contender for my favorite Phish album.
I love the cover design…
If I was was forced at gunpoint to pick ONE studio album to keep, I’d pick this one.
That’s just me.
I love Farmhouse! It may be my favorite album…if I had to choose. Sand, Bud, First Tube, Jibboo, all of it. Picture of Nectar turned me on to Phish and Junta–forget about it, but there’s something about Farmhouse. Maybe it’s the sound of maturity as a band, I don’t know but I do Love it!
Deadly…good first post. Sometime you just have to express your love for this album out loud. I probably listen to this album more than any other Phish studio album.
I might just break down and buy this on vinyl. It sounds super hetty on vinyl format, nes pa??
I like Dirt ,Sleep, and Inlaw. I actually love all the songs, but only those three in the context of being on a record. This may be my least favorite Phish album. Every songs it seems, is based on one repetitive chord progression. As much as I love to see a kickin’ Twist or First Tube live, this record just doesn’t do it for me.
Like every other Phish album, Farmhouse has it’s own feel; much simpler, very laid back, a nice mix of introspective and zen-koan like lyrics. definately the continuation of the sound of a maturing band (that i believe started with Billy Breathes). in fact, i think Farmhouse is thier last really great album. Both Round Room and Undermind have enduring qualities and great songs as well, but just as a whole, i don’t think they equal the coheriance or the charm of Farmhouse. in a live setting, these songs bring a balance that was (in my opinion) badly needed earlier in thier career. all the bells and whistles are totally sweet and all (mindblowing/awe-inspiring, actually, to give full respect where it is due), but there is a primitive need for a simple song that one can hum in one’s head. and to couple the simplicity of the Farmhouse material with the technical and improvisational aspects of a Phish concert, it just made the whole that much more transcendent to me.
i like Farmhouse is what i’m tryin to say, i guess ; )
i too like farmhouse, bug, dirt, jiboo, twist, piper, i love grooving to this cd
Farmhouse was my first time I ever heard Phish. I was my first listen to their music and it got me addicted right away!
you know, looking back on things, for a contemplative second moment here, nothing has really hit me, you know, REALLY, hit me, in my life, like Phish, you know, that one band.
The album gave me new hope
i’m going to listen to this album post-haste!
Phish’s music in all gave me a new hope on life. Seriously!
I finally bought this, used, on CD. Not as cool as vinyl, but…
I forgot how much I liked this album. The only thing I think is kind of “meh” is ‘Heavy Things’ but I’m not the hugest fan of that song.
The “studio” Piper always gets to me. Listening to it while hurtling down a road is one of life’s simplest joys.
