Thank you for not being like all the other owners and filling your pockets instead of putting it on the field.
Thanks for the 7 rings…RIP #28 will be for you and Bob this year.
Although I’ve never really been a fan of Bib G, I must admit that i have respected the fact that he goes out and spends money on his club. I mean, i hate the Yankees becuase I’ve felt that they have bought several championships…but, at least they won them, right. It is part of what makes the Yankees THE YANKEES.
Either way, rest old man, rest. And smile becuase your legacy is certainly in tact.
Man I hated Steinbrenner. Sorry to hear of his passing though. Great at what he did, but yeah, I could not stand the guy. That dude was all about the $$$$$$, not baseball.
::runs away from thread due to large number of New Yorkers on this board::
Yeah,…can’t say I really liked him either.
All about $$$. Yeah,…they won rings. But they are the most hated team in sports too.
It’ll be interesting to see how the Yankees are run in the next couple years.
R.I.P George,…see ya on the other side.
Oh wait,…your part of the empire. You won’t be crossing over.
Wow, i knew he was old and ill but i still didn’t see this coming. I thought he was immortal. Like Mr. Burns or something. Anyway, this guy had Yankees owner written all over him. I think it will be a while before there’s a character quite like him in the MLB.
I hate that I’m defending George Steinbrenner here, but you can’t say that he was all about the money. The guy loved baseball and that’s why he poured so much money in his team. Every year his team didn’t win the Series was a giant thorn in his side. He loved the money, but he also loved the game. He was just able to use his gigantic fortune within the rules of MLB to assemble all-star teams in NY.
He was twice suspended from baseball, once for shady campaign contributions to Richard Nixon and once for hiring a low-life to spy on his OWN star batter Dave Winfield.
