Get back at 10KLF

I am curious if anyone thought that the choice of encore at 10KLF was significant. The Beatles Get Back closed the tour for Trey, Mike and the duo. I just keep hoping that the message was that they are going to “get back to where they once belonged”!!! Any thoughts?

From N.D.???

another North Dakotan? Awesome! I’m a Fargo native.

I thought about that significance, but all I could concentrate on was how heady that jam was that trailed off of it. I loved it!

Since you’re a newb (not a bad thing), I’ll just warn you that this should have probably either gone in “Reunion Rumor Mill” or the 10k thread in “Shows/Meetups”

We need to stop reading significance into every song any of the members play. If they are going to reunite they will just tell us, not play head games.

Thanks for the advice, categorization not a forte. Williston ND here.
I was disappointed with the show that evening. Thought I heard some lyrics that would have tom marshall with head in hands. I thought the covers were special, just didn’t hear the synergistic magic I have come to associate with Trey and the boys.

God forbid we should take an idea or thought let it twist around in the name of fun. Relax and go with the flow. It’s my first post and I am being chastised. chill dude.

I hear what you are saying Greg. Inferring that playing “Get Back” is a secret message that Phish is getting back is quite the stretch, but to say phish wouldn’t and hasn’t played head games with us in the past is not true! They love fucking around with how dedicated their fans are.

Yeah man. Don’t get discouraged by Greg. He can be kinda abrasive, but he means no harm—I don’t think

And I understand where he is coming from, since we’ve had discussions about song meanings so much before. And those discussions tend to go nowhere and be complete speculation.

See the “all the answers are on Shine” thread in teh Rumor Mill

Kingfish–did you see the Trey show last year at 10K?

This one was MILES better, and I’ve just been raving about it. I had an UNBELIEVABLE time, mainly because I was in the very front row, right in front of Marco–and Trey looked better overall than I have EVER seen him, with phish or not.

I agree with Greg. They’ll just tell us, but it is fun to hope! I think the antics of Phish in the past have led us to believe they’re always fucking with us, but that pretty much died with Fluffhead :’(

And Kingfish, if you’re only complaint is about the lyrics, than who cares??

Lyrics are not nearly as important in live shows as the music and overall energy. Do you agree?

Sorry but I did see him at 10k last year as well. I guess I am looking for a 20 minute 7 Below, or a jammed out Chalkdust, or Julius. Loved him last year, didnot feel the love this year. probably an expectations thing. The lyrics in the tune about skyrockets turned me off and I never recovered. Sorry, don’t know the name of the tune. All this is coming from one who felt he walked on water, by the way. I’ve seen Clapton, Santana, etc and have felt Trey is the shit, big time. I still feel that way, just disappointed with saturday nights show. Good to know there are other phans in ND. Not many here in NW.

I agree that lyrics are not the least bit important, they just shouldnt be so thick with bubble gum flavor. that’s not quite the word i was looking for but maybe accurately sums up what I felt mid show.

Some of those new songs do severly lack lyrically, but being in the front row this year, I just gained so much more hope in Trey than I have had in the past few years. I’m willing to get past the cheesy lyrics if Trey can rock and be creative and have fun like he did Saturday night.

That’s weird that you enjoyed Trey last year more than this year! I feel the complete opposite way, but, you know, different strokes for different folks.

thanks for the opportunity to dialogue in a friendly atmoshpere, gotta go, will return.

i think trey definitely picks cover songs with symbolism in mind… i wouldn’t say its hint that they’re going to be getting back together anytime soon, but i’m sure its a nod at playing with mike again (or even to playing with phil/enjoying dead tunes once again). i’d venture to bet ‘who are you’ was thrown in there for symbolic reasons as well.

edit: oh and pay no attention to the man with the cow bell… his mind is weighed down by the burdens of abolition.

I don’t think they’re past playing head games with us at all. Like zoot said, they love to play tunes that have signifgance with what’s going on around them.

I think Get Back probably has some signifigance, but maybe not in the sense that Phish is getting back together. Maybe they just want to get back to having that feeling again and playing some great music with the project they have right now.

I also don’t think On The Road Again was played just for the hell of it either. They are obviously happy to be back on the road, together again (Trey and Mike).

they are not playing games. if anything they are referencing mike and trey being back together. “on the road again” by willie nelson, same thing. has nothing to do with phish…i think. hehe.

magic 8 ball says “All signs point to Yes”

It’s inevitable.

If Trey’s picking the majority of the songs they played this tour, which I assume he is, who really knows, but none the less, is picking the songs for a reason. Wouldn’t you? I would.

Just my .02, but I think that there is some signifigance to the coice of covers they play. Just from seeing them in Chicago, and seeing On the Road Again, I really think there is something to it. In Chicago, he mentioned how My Sweet One was written by one of the greatest musicians of all time, and one of the best people in the world…Jon Fishman. Then Trey & Mike busted into My Sweet One, immediately follwed by On The Road Again. I just don’t think that this is a coinsidence. It may not happen this year, but I just get the feeling that it’s gonna happen sooner than later.

Well I had always read and heard that Trey loves the Beatles, and that’s why they played ‘Get Back.’ But maybe I’m reading too much into that…
