they played get back at a lot of shows this tour. they also played stuck in the middle with you. maybe trey secretly wants to cut off someones ear and pour gasoline on them???
i’ll get to a full trey show review when i get more time later this week. but i LOVED IT!!!
trey’s new stuff was bubble-gummy with 70V Parade, with GRAB it is not…while the lyrics obviously are the same, the feel of the songs were MUCH different, marco, joe, and gordo really lay a groove on those songs that wasn’t there before…and there were some WICKED jams in that set, mean jams, trey was making faces at people/crowd (i too was one person from the front, right in front of trey) smiling at the band, playing delicate and playing off the everyone else’s leads and ideas…he was NOT just up there jerking off (i.e. some post-hiatus phish, all 70V parade)

for me, in the moment, and i’ll have to listen to it again obviously…that was the best i’ve heard trey play since pre-hiatus days…and that show was tighter and higher energy than 75% of post-hiatus phish shows. hands down. i thought it was SICK!!!
and my expectations could not have been any higher…
I think there’s only one reason why they have been covering Get Back (besides that it’s a great tune):
Marco can do the Billy Preston solos so damn well! Plus his tone his similar to Preston’s as well.

I do have to agree however, that the playing was 10 times better than I even expected. The show was great except for the early fireworks…
