Get Out and Vote Today

The problem is people A) have no patience whatsoever, and B) believe everything they hear/read on the TV. When shit was bad in 2008 we saw people say F republicans. Now that it hasn’t got much better they are doing it to the Democrats. I guess its just cyclical. All i know is it doesn’t really matter because they are all liars and crooks

I think part of the reason I don’t feel so bombarded by all this is that I don’t own a TV or listen to the radio. I only learn what I want to learn and the research I have to do, I have to do myself.

I guess I’d be more fed up with it if I was forced to watch the ads that so many people seem to complain about.

Being informed is not easy. More difficult everyday, it seems. And the status quo, and powers that be–and desire to be–know this. They cater to it. To them, it’s much easier to just muddy the waters, knock over the board, turn people off, and play to emotion, rather than pursue the high road. And as a result you get something like the Tea Party that is all fired up, but deeply lacking on the facts.
The more money pouring into the constant campaign season, the worse this problem will become. A problem for everyone…not only those struggling to remain informed.

I’ve decided the Tea Party is a marketing tool. It’s nothing more than a PR stunt by the Republican party who was SO hated after the Bush administration. They were losing their asses in elections and needed a revamp, so they came up with the Tea Party.

if i had voted yesterday, the exact same thing would be happening today.

^Not true. If you had voted yesterday, you wouldn’t be here now trying to justify the fact that you didn’t vote.

^word.

but i still made just as big of a difference.

I can’t imagine not voting. I registered to vote on my 18th birthday and have voted in every election since… sure, sometimes it doesn’t make a difference, but sometimes the margin is pretty slim and every vote counts. For example, there’s a local open space tax initiative that is currently passing by 465 votes (with over 115,000 votes cast). This is something that’s really important to me and I would be pissed if it failed and I hadn’t voted.

I guess if you don’t feel like voting, meh. But I don’t see how people can argue that their vote doesn’t make a difference.

Sorry folks…I didn’t vote. I’m done with that stuff after falling for the Obama crap last election. I don’t support the system, it’s corrupt and big business and wall street runs it all. If I voted, I’d be a hypocrite for participating in a system that I don’t believe in.

Yes, voting for a third party is a waste of time. If there’s one thing the Big Two agree on, it’s keeping third parties down. And no, the “Tea Party” is just another tool of the Republicans to fool people disillusioned with the Big Two into thinking it’s a viable third choice. Fox News doesn’t adamantly support the Tea Party for no reason. But I’m sure most of you know that already.

Yes, writing in a candidate is a cute form of protest but no one in power will see it and it’s the equivalent of when you were in junior high and wrote on Seymour Butts on your Class President ballot. It solves nothing and no one cares.

Yes, all our vets died so we could vote but they also died so we could decide not to vote. I could argue that all day. And let’s be frank…only the American Revolution and 1918 guys died for the right to vote…the other folks died for other reasons, usually the whims of politicians to make themselves seem tougher. And no, don’t say that WWII was about that because Hitler was elected just like folks were elected yesterday. And if these vets dying was such a big deal why does our government treat our vets like shit and throw them away like used toilet paper when they’re done?

And yes, if you are an uniformed voter, DON’T VOTE because you’re just fucking things up for people who did the actual research. Those in power LOVE uninformed voters because A) voting actually makes them think they actually have a say in things so they’re satisfied and B) uninformed voters will vote for those that they hear about on TV and such…I.E: voting for those who they want you to vote for.

And yes, I’ll agree voting on Proposals is useful so go vote for those. I looked at the two Proposals I had this election and I couldn’t have cared less about either of them. So I didn’t bother.

-And let me tell you if all of these new Republicans in Congress don’t do something about this “you must have health care or you get fined” garbage then every single one of them is a failure. Plain and simple. Of course that’s exactly what I expect.

I didn’t vote.

Just to be clear, I do think all cable news is piss poor. I see that completely when I watch MSNBC. Just because I heap score upon Fox in NO WAY WHATSOEVER should be interpreted as thinking all of the alternatives are saints. Far from it. Just as my criticisms against Republicans should not be seen as unwavering support for Democrats. I would think this all goes without saying…but apparently not so.

And in the “anyone but a Republican” department:

http://www.aolnews.com/elections/article/deceased-candidate-jenny-oropeza-re-elected-in-california/19700962?icid=maing%7Cmain5%7C1%7Clink7%7C23289

(Nov. 3) – A Democratic state senator who died last month was easily re-elected in California, denying the GOP the seat and probably forcing the governor to call a special election.

Sen. Jenny Oropeza was leading Republican challenger John Stammreich 58.4 percent to 35.7 percent, according to the latest vote count, The Sacramento Bee reported.

California state Sen. Jenny Oropeza, who died Oct. 20, was re-elected Tuesday. Her name was on the ballot because she died so close to the election. If the results hold up, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger will call a special election.

Oropeza, who represented a district in Southern California’s Long Beach area, died Oct. 20 at age 53 of complications from a blot clot in her abdomen. Because she died so close to the election, her name stayed on the ballot.

The campaign became heated on its final day. Stammreich and the state GOP filed a complaint accusing the Democratic Party and secretary of state of using a final-hour mailer to “illegally influence” the voting public, the Daily Breeze reported.

The lawyer for the state Republican Party, Chuck Bell, did not rule out a challenge to the election results based on possible "“illegal conduct affecting the vote,” the newspaper said.

 My sentiments exactly…Well said

Actually those sentiments seem somewhat justified, but rather lazy to me. Disenchantment only serves those forces. To expect something to improve without putting any effort behind it, and wait for someone else to do so, to me, seems irresponsible.

Look at this:

vote.sos.ca.gov/returns/attorney-general/

Our AG election has come down to 15,000 votes out of 7 million cast. That’s a small Phish show’s worth of votes. And this race is HUGE!! Steve Cooley is a warrior against Medical Marijuana who has done a huge amount of damage to the cause in Los Angeles. He has used his power as district attorney to advance a bitter social agenda. He was ahead in all of the polls and expected to easily win. Now, it’s down to this…

vote.sos.ca.gov/returns/attorney-general/

Every vote counts.

That’s just it…I DON’T expect it to improve. Ever. The government is fucked and money reigns and the only folks who can change it are those currently in power. Plain and simple. The best thing I can do is avoid it. It’s kind of like if you went to a bar and every time you went, this regular just went and punched you in the face. And no matter how many times you tried to bribe him, reason with him, fight back or complain to management, he’s always there and he always punches you in the face every time. Eventually you just stop going to that bar, right? After a while, it’s just not worth the effort because there’s never a reward for it. People always say that the whole insanity thing is doing the same thing and expecting a different result and yet no one seems to apply this to government. It’s one of the few things in society where a majority of people believe that it’s corrupt and broken to an extent yet everyone still participates.

I agree with your jib this morning, stev’o … I mean, shit. I gave up. I voted, but really it’s just encouraging them.

We need a whole 'nother world on the side, that operates within US borders but without the US dollar. We should start it at shows, whenever possible leave the cash out of it and just trade something instead. I dunno, somethin. Let’s operate from outside of the system. There’s gotta be a peaceful way to at least partially attain that.

I wonder how people that don’t vote would react if they were told that they were not allowed to vote.

^They’d complain about how the system fucked them again and then continue to do nothing to change it. :astonished:

Don’t act like he doesn’t have a point though. The system is more than likely corrupt beyond hope. It’s like the mirage of a system.
