j/k. Take what I said as you will. Oh and Santa Claus will be spreading X-mas cheer at phish’s reunion concert Halloween 08 in Boston. You better get ready!
I love how people assume that because they don’t IMMEDIATELY see the signs of global warming, then it’s not happening. Global warming will take place gradually over hundreds of years where the average person will never be able to tell the difference from the naked eye.
I agree. It’s amazing to me how people are generally very reasonable and sharp in other facets of life…most folks aren’t easily fooled and are reasonably skeptical of anything that doesn’t seem quite right. Yet when you stick politics into it, people will immediately believe ANYTHING that supports their political beliefs and immediately distrust anything from the other side of politics. All the normal reasoning, logic, common sense and free-thinking that people normally exhibit on an everyday basis just goes out the window. It’s really amazing how that works. Even those anti-government people who believe its all a big conspiracy and that 9/11 was an inside job and think that they’re enlightened to what it’s all “really” about think with the same fanatacism as the pro-government “slaves” that they go up against.
Oh…well I’m sure all the millions of folks living in Antarctica are totally bummed out about that. I’m, of course, talking about legitimate changes in the weather in the Americas.
Goldphish is right. Longer growing seasons and milder winters would be a good thing. However, while we may have a small contribution, our burning of fossil fuels has contributed to less than 1% of the total CO2 in the atmosphere. That amount of extra C02 isn’t gonna cause the end of the world as we know it, the sun simply has way more influence over our climate. If indeed sunspots are decreasing, which would result in decreased solar output, that would overwhelm any effect we’ve had on our climate, and we would enter a cooling phase, which would be much worse than a warming phase.
Also, since '98, the planet hasn’t experienced any net warming. In fact, this latest winter here in upstate NY has been a cold one. Where I go to college, in Buffalo, we’ve only had 3 days this month where the high temperature was above the average high. Obviously this doesn’t disprove global warming. However, if Al Gore can say Katrina was caused by global warming, then I’m certainly entitled to point out something that goes against the global warming theory.
^Pretty good points, gamble. It’s nice to see it put in a way that isn’t just directly jumping on someone’s back that you oppose, but offering very nice facts to back up your reasoning.
Seriously your point is well taken Buster. I don’t mean to jump on anyones back or be less than 25 knots of breeze with my posts but I guess I can be blunt sometimes. I’m like that at work too and yes it does cause people to dislike me sometimes. Sorry about that.
Oh well in general I’m a nice person so I do need to work on this bluntness. That being said I thank Mr. Gamble for articulating where I could not.
Pushing the idea of global warming tends to serve the politicians and big money, ie rich entrepreneurs and environmental agencies like the WWF, Sierra club etal. People can get elected and big business make money off it. It is also a perfect idea for social control, instilling fear in the masses.
Problem is people just automatically believe the idea is true. And that you are to blame for it with your wasteful lifestyle. That you must change the way you live, the car you drive, the products you buy. This way they control peoples minds and money. Then the push puts elected officials in gov’t that make it mandatory that you live that way. And we become puppets to the system and make those people rich and buy their “environmentally friendly” products. Its like the matrix. We must fight for Zion!
