Basement flooded.
Never happened before. My neighbor’s basement floods constantly, but we’ve never had more than a puddle since moving in, Summer 2001. When I left the house the first time, to bring my son to school, I was amazed to see my yard totally flooded, and my driveway just covered with water. I thought it was gonna be a regional thing, some newsworthy storm had hit us.
Turns out some pond overflowed or something, and it was just a couple houses that got it from this! The fire department’s on the job right now. They got the town to sandbag the pond to stop the flooding, and they’re currently pumping the water from my basement. Good times.
Luckily for me, other than my toolbox and a bedframe, and some of my sister-in-law’s stuff that she left at my house a couple years ago, … there’s really not much down there that I care about. It just might work out that I can get the town to take all my basement junk away free of charge if I play this right.
Anyway, so far it’s only cost me: a couple hours of my shift (good), one phone call (simple) and some general excitement (cool). The dog went bezerk, that’s about the worst of it so far.
Meanwhile, here I am at work, to wish you all a heartfelt good December morning. And maybe to get some of this freakin’ work done.
