Good Morning Oh Kee Pa (Part 1)

I got up this morning, and I must give myself a pat on the back, but I made myself one hell of a cappuccino. The foamed milk on the top was just perfect. So fucking good…damn I really wish I had another one but I have to get this presentation cranked out before football!

Morning. I slid through a stop sign into a ditch this morning going to work. My corgi and I had to hitch the last mile. Thanks to AAA my car is free of the 50+ degree angle it was lodged at. I knew 50 yards before the stop sign that I wasn’t stopping. I’m quite lucky I didn’t get creamed going through the intersection.

Woah, good to hear you’re ok. What was the problem? Ice?

Ice ice baby. I had a friend who used to live at the house on that corner. Growing up and hanging out over there, I watched lots of cars do the same thing at that hill that ends with a stop sign. I should have known better

^Yikes man…winter is a bitch. The countdown to spring has begun!

Belated morning greetings. Was busy making waffles first thing this morning. Tried out the new flip Belgium waffle maker we bought just before Christmas. Worked pretty nicely.

Marie left to go see Disney Princesses On Ice with some of the gdaughters. Kind of a girl’s day out together, and that’s pretty cool when they have the gkids along.

I get to stay home and do the “guy” kind of things like re-grouting the bathtub and floor in the bathroom, making chicken soup with an over stuffer leftovers from a week ago, while blasting the “Phish radio” that Pandora puts together for me on the 7.1, taking a moment for a bowlful, before settling in to watch some football, yet not before spreading some positive vibes on the OKP.

Since going down to that ice scupture event last December, I’ve gradually developed a fascination for the stuff. Could be all the snow and ice I’ve had to move around so far this Winter. Whatever it is, I just get attracted to it in so many references lately. Noticed this one on some internet news/interest site.

Check out some of these pictures. You can’t tell me that it’s not fascinating, to spend some time living inside ice.

Sorry, I’ll go watch football now.

Dude, sorry to hear that. Friggin ice. That’s a completely honest mistake. You can be cautious as hell all winter and all it takes is being in a hurry one time, and you forget about those kinds of spots.

Due to my being a weather nut/weirdo, I have noticed that TC has snow in the forecast every single day this week. So I guess it’s no big surprise that people are sliding through stop signs.

Bill!!! I almost put that ice hotel in my post in the “beautiful places” thread. I went to the ice hotel in Québec when I was there, and it was pretty wild. They had bed frames made of ice, chairs made of ice, and in the bar area, not only was the bar made out of ice, but they had carved little nooks out of the walls (which are also made of ice) that you could sit in while you drank your cocktail or coffee or whatever. It was really incredible to see, and I can’t wait to go back to Québec. If you haven’t ever been, go!

That sucks, lawnboy! Doojette says she used to put her car in ditches all the time, if that makes you feel any better.

Of course… she was 17 and on acid… but, hey.

Anyways… That ice hotel is insane!! :astonished: That is someplace I must see.

Ditto

Got to watch out for that ice.

It’s time this board had an emoticon giving the middle finger.

Marie and I are both off today. Well, she gets the day off, but I have to use a personal day. The result is the same.

It’s one of our anniversaries today, so we’re going out for dinner tonight, but this morning we’re headed up to Morristown NJ to the Morris Museum to see an exhibit called Musical Machines and Living Dolls: Mechanical Musical Instruments and Automata from The Murtogh D. Guinness Collection

http://www.morrismuseum.org/static/collections/guinness/guinness.html

They also have a decorative glass exhibit. Glass is one of Marie’s favorite collectables, mainly paperweights, so we figured we’d have the day out together poking around a museum we’ve never been to in order to see things that might be fun. Did you know that for a while, in the early 1800s, NJ was the glass capital of the world? Has mostly to do with the fact that most of central to southern NJ is predominately sand beneath a thin layer of topsoil.

Have a great day off OKP, if you’re taking one today. Otherwise have a great start to the week.

Beautiful day. I had a great yesterday too. Nothing on my agenda except laundry and more eatin’. Lucky to have the day off, about to watch a movie w/teh wife & kids. Thank God sometimes, right?

Morning folks!

I really have no idea whether or not I have today off… guess I will find out soon enough, huh?

Happy anniversary fone! Which one is it?

So glad to see everyone is off work today!! Me too!!

I’m gonna run up to Whole Foods in a bit a buy some groceries. Haven’t done that in a while. It’s gonna be nice to have full cabinets.

I have some friends coming over later. We’re gonna cook dinner, and, of all things, watch The Grateful Dead Movie. My friend Lindsay has NEVER seen it, and we’re all a little shocked . . .force feeding it to her so to speak.

Hope you all have a wonderful holiday, and remember why we get this day off

Happy MLK day. Congrats to those of you that get to observe this day doing something other than working. At least the Bears won…

Bill, sounds like a cool exhibit and museum all around. Some of those automata are neat and who doesn’t love some pretty glass? Can’t wait to hear about it.

My grandmother had this guy at her house and I used to love to watch it when I was a kid. From the 50s, so much newer than the ones you’re seeing, and battery run, but it surely fascinated me. Especially how smoke continued to come out of his ears even decades after it was made and used consistently.

A full pantry… and an empty wallet! :stuck_out_tongue: I always call that place Whole Paycheck. They got some crazy, nutso prices in that place. Sucks too, because they took over our organic grocery in downtown, formerly known as Greenlife. One here, one in Chattanooga. They left the name as Greenlife on the outside of the building, but the receipts say Whole Foods. I mean, Greenlife wasn’t cheap, but the prices have actually managed to go up since the WF takeover. Whatever, the only things I ever get there are coffee and beer.

^Actually, if you do it right, Whole Foods is cheaper than the normal market. At least, around here it is. Water crackers, for instance, are non-organic and $3.99 at Albertson’s or Ralph’s (our standard supermarkets) but the organic 365 brand water crackers from Whole Foods are $1.99. Same goes for a lot of organic options like fruit and juice, that tend to be more at our regular supermarkets and less at Whole Foods. It seems that the more and more people shop at Whole Foods, the lower the prices get.

For a while, I was getting a little burnt on them, because they would offer all this organic shit from chile and argentina and even china… which kind of defeats the purpose. But, lately, I’ve noticed that they’ve been making an effort to keep things more local, which really helps with the price (and the environment!).

It all depends on what you buy. But, if you like to make organic meals from scratch with locally grown and raised produce and meats, I’ve found that Whole Foods can often be the best bet (next to the actual farmer’s market). That said, if you’re looking for a bag of ruffles or some frozen mozzarella sticks… whole foods probably ain’t the place.
