Heh…be glad I posted it a few days ago since I’m even more sick of it now. It’s to the point where I see an ad about a story on someone who was burned like hell in the attack and survived and I’m screaming “I DON’T CARE!! I JUST DON’T CARE ANYMORE!” at the screen before flipping channels. It’s like a horrible, twisted, depressing version of the buildup to Christmas. The huge number of depressing stories has officially killed any emotional impact they’re supposed to have.
And say what you want but 9/11 is a frickin National Holiday. It is. It’s celebrated, and yes I mean “celebrated,” more than half of the REAL holidays out there. All that’s left is for us to get the day off of work but I suppose that’s not allowed since that would allow people to be happy and this holiday is all about depressing people. People talk about the “terrorists winning” but us rehashing this garbage makes them “win” every year.
Not surprising…they’ve had it in their face for a decade and have probably figured out a balance between simply honoring the dead versus glorifying the holiday like the news has been doing for the last three weeks.
Ok, on from the Steve rant about hating the 9/11 remembering story, sheesh … Maybe this should be in another thread, not the ‘Good Morning Thread…’ Oh and having known people affected by this tragedy, I think you are way off base and this really solidifies what Will said, “quota filled…” I think you posting shit just to get reactions is fine, but using this as your jumping board, makes me
Do you hate July 4th too? Memorial day?
Anywho~~~
Mornin!!!
Loves to you all!!!
Beautiful day here in the TC area, football day is here, go Saints! I love football!
If I fly the flag and say a prayer on Dec. 7th, does that mean that the Japanese have won?
Good Morning to evryone in this 'Pa-lacious estate! Hope everyone is well.
Last day in the office this week!
Tomorrow is our office outing. We are headed to downtown Chi-town for the architectural (sp?) boat tours and then a tasting tour of places in the city!
Should be a great time, even though I’m not too hip on hanging out with most people in my office. Being downtown on a nice summer/fall Friday, well, that’s just hard to beat!
Be well all, and I hope everyone who put in, got lottery tix for the Phish!
I like Stev0’s rants, I don’t know why people can’t sympathize … never seen 'em as trying to get a rise out of anyone. ::shrugs:: I don’t watch TV either, but I can imagine myself burnt out on anything media related, … which is why I don’t tune in.
Good morning all you peoples. Even though it’s 12:15. Figures! I think I’m gonna be fifteen minutes late to my own demise.
Let me make this VERY clear. Everything I post on here is exactly how I feel about these things and I’ve likely already ranted about it to other folks I know. The same applies to comments on the sports threads. I’m well past the stage of laughing maniacally and twirling my mischievous mustache as I click “send” on these posts. If there is supposed to be fun in seeing people overreact to your posts, misunderstand your points, and claim you’re disingenious then I fail to see it. I’ve seen far angrier and more controversial stuff on here and I’m sure most would agree.
And yet, strangely, I never get the horrified reactions from friends and family that I get from people here…which is maybe why I still post this stuff here…I find it amazing that you guys seem so concerned about never offending anyone since it’ll never happen…everyone is offended by something…worrying about this stuff is just going to give you a headache. Say what you feel and worry about the backlash later. Is everyone here really so sensitive about everything? Has the PC machine finally eaten us all up completely?
Simply said, I’m sick of the coverage and I feel it almost cheapens the actual tragedy. It’s fine to do all of these tributes and stuff…ON 9/11.
And these comments aren’t exactly groundbreaking or shocking stuff I’m posting and I’m sure many feel the same but don’t want to voice it for fear they may offend someone. It’s not like I’m posting utter blasphemy here.
If I had to hear about these holidays for a month before and was flooded by disingenious patriotic garbage for a month straight leading up to it, then yes, I guarantee that I would be sick of those holidays too. I already dislike how Christmas has become a three-month holiday but at least that is mostly about giving and cheer and generally positive things.
A good idea and it’s not like I watch these shows but I would like to try to watch the news and get NEWS. I can’t escape it even when I’m not seeking it out.
I am not one to shy away from posting things others might not agree with, I just use a filter and have come to realize over the years what I feel and what is typed can be be viewed as totally different items (Trust me, I have had this pointed out to me by many pholks here), so I refrain and enjoy my time here…(I have avoided many items lately just because I am trying to refrain from having some items affect me in a negative light.) Since I have a fairly busy life, I’ll stick to discussing items that might be misconstrued over a message board to my conversations in person…
Ohh, and are you telling me you do not hear about Memorial day 4-8 weeks in advance, lmao… It is considered the start of Summer and it seems to be a fairly recognized date that has many lead ups… Maybe the 9/11 thing is still new enough, that you are not used to it yet? Maybe it is so horrific, you do not want to accept it? Also, about the 4th? You’re telling me you only hear about it on the fourth? Sure, they never have the items out in stores or on TV weeks in advance for the fourth…
If you let items affect you, then you can only blame yourself… If you choose to filter and let shit fly in one ear and out the other, then you should be ok… Like Doug stated, shut off the TV/cable -Maybe get out and enjoy what our wonderful country has to offer. Enjoy some fresh air and great local music!
Go ahead and pull out random comments and “quote” away, then break down what I typed and rail me again, I find it cute…
Yep. I’ll give you an Amen! to that! Gave up cable and the tv set over a year ago and haven’t missed it for a second. TV oversensationalizes everything, whether its christmas, 9/11, or just the plain ol weather. And oversensationalization will always lead to desensitation.
…And for the record, I have heard very little if anything about 9/11… The most I hear about it is from the NFL and all their plans for the Sunday games…
I avoid the news for the most part and get most of my info via the OKP … I have heard more about the 9/11 plans here from Steve than anywhere, funny enough…
I watch very little TV (I do have a few guilty pleasures but mostly I enjoy my sports on TV)… I love movies and music. My name is Ryan and I spend more time camping, RV’ing and seeing music than I do worrying about what TV force feeds ya…
Believe it or not, I do the same and have done so more often lately. You likely haven’t seen me posting on politics in quite a while…it’s just a nasty subject in general.
It’s nothing like this. Some older soldiers standing at attention at Arlington is nothing compared to this massive 9/11 frenzy we’ve had this month. And I’m sorry, I hear about Memorial Day maybe a week before If that. Half the time I don’t even remember it’s coming up.
I knew this would come up. Just because I don’t feel like dwelling on bad things means that I somehow can’t handle them or want to escape or hide. Why is it so difficult to stay positive around here? Is it so bad to want to be surrounded by happy and positive things and not have people constantly reminding you that the world can be a terrible place. Do I REALLY need a constant, endless reminder of this? Watch the news, read the editorials, listen to the radio shows…it’s just constant negativity and this 9/11 stuff is no different. Just reminding everyone that, once again, the world is a bad place. Why does media try SO hard to bum everyone out?
For one, fireworks being sold and advertised in stores is not the same as this media 9/11 free-for-all we’re getting now. Plus the 4th is a positive event…it’s about enjoying family, barbecues, concerts, celebrating freedom, and fireworks. 9/11 is showing recovered burn victims, talking to sad and angry families, debating political upheaval against Muslims, watching the twin towers collapse over and over, and rehashing all the political mistakes made by the country soon afterward.
Trust me, I do. I’m not quite as worked up over these things as I appear to be…remember this only started with a comments on the coverage until it blew up when people commented on it…I didn’t even make it it’s own thread since it didn’t seem worth it. I’m the master of Escapism and good music and sports makes everything go away which is maybe why I like those things so much. But you can only escape so much. I’ll be watching lots of sports this weekend…stuff that should have nothing to do with 9/11…and yet I’ll bet I’ll be hearing ridiculous amounts of 9/11 stuff just from watching sports. Like I said, it’s not like I seek it out.
And in the end, it’s not just me…I can escape this stuff and be fine but not everyone has that outlet. Some people get legitimately depressed by this stuff and I just don’t think they need the pushing in that direction. Oh well…
[/end rant on hopeless stuff that will never change]
Sorry, that’s my style. I comment on what folks type. If only everyone hung on your every sentence like me, right?
