Good Morning Oh Kee Pa (Part 1)

Mornin!

Loves to you all!

Government is closed, whats the difference? Weak bunch of overpaid idiots running and spending… Meh!

Work>work…

Be well!

I feel awful. Have had this cough for almost five weeks now…maybe more…I lost track. My chest/side muscles hurt like crazy because the coughing has worn them down…now it hurts when I breathe heavy, cough, sneeze or move in certain ways. So, to get rid of the cough I’m trying this Mucinex which supposedly loosens flem in your lungs which is nice but it essentially causes you to cough even more as you clear it out…which is leading to the muscles hurting even more. This fucking sucks. It’s just wearing me down.

On the bright side, I heard news that Elton John is coming to town in November which is sweet. I saw him when he was touring with Billy Joel and while Billy was nice, Elton blew him out of the water. It’ll be another one of those shows where I’ll have to get the last row since I know the entire crowd will be sitting, those old fogies. He’s a great show…can’t wait…if I live that long…

Good morning. Feeling much better today physically, and after almost two anguished years of trying to get my paper published it was finally accepted for publication yesterday. Can’t tell you what a relief that is. More than the implications it has professionally, I’m just really glad I never have to look at the fucking thing again

Mornin!

Loves to you all!

Elton is coming here too, but we passed due to high ticket costs. I mean for my wife and I to see him and is horse voice, was like $135.00, for cheap seats… Screw that. I saw him in 1991, it was grand, I’ll stick with that memory!

Travel to 'Sconny today, yay…

Be well!

Congratulations, Doug! Well-Done!!

Are you still doing the ‘smoking cures my cold’ thing? Cause if you are, maybe it’s time to give it a break until your 5+wk cough goes away … just sayin’

that’s like comparing a boy scout troop master to General MacArthur

Go see a dr.

could be any number of respiratory diseases, best to get diagnosed.

or keep writing about it on an internet forum, that’s bound to clear it up

You’re a bit better than a boy scout troop Hank. Have some pride man.

My concern is for all the non-essential workers who are not getting paid. A lot of these people may already have been hurting from being partially furloughed and now they aren’t getting paid at all. And people who don’t work glamourous government jobs; the park ranger, the janitor, the security guard. They are taking a big hit because this bunch of worthless bickering children can’t stop blowing hot air and do their jobs.

And what about people who have might have been planning a trip to Yosemite or Washington DC for a long time? Took off work, paid for travel expenses, planned days worth of activities. Now they are screwed. I realize not the worst problems in the world, but another example that the people getting fucked over here are regular folk.

Stevo, go to the doctor already.

Good morning Oh Kee Pa!

Morning Pa!

Glad it’s Thursday cause tomorrow is the weekend and I’m stoked to relax and enjoy a couple of days off. Busy week so the rest is well-earned.

We get some Live Phish in 15 days, yipee!

Now where are my Hampton Mail Order tix … MusicToday / Phish … step it up!

Elton is coming here too, but we passed due to high ticket costs. I mean for my wife and I to see him and is horse voice, was like $135.00, for cheap seats…

I haven’t really looked at prices but, sadly, $60 is pretty standard for these big acts. I’ll still be going…considering that I spend $60 on frivolous garbage like eating out during lunch, I probably won’t miss it much.

Stevo, go to the doctor already.

I did! I did!

Are you still doing the ‘smoking cures my cold’ thing? Cause if you are, maybe it’s time to give it a break until your 5+wk cough goes away … just sayin’

Hee Hee. No, I cut myself off the last week or so. In the end, it’s not even a cold…I’m over the cold but the cough has lingered on. Saw the doctor yesterday and he says it may just be flem buildup but we’ll look into it more if it lingers. Gave me an inhaler and some of that badass cough medicine with codeine (or as I call it: “Cough medicine that actually works”). The cough wouldn’t be so annoying if the rib muscles weren’t hurting as well. I do feel better today…guess I was just worn down when I bitched up a storm yesterday.

could be any number of respiratory diseases, best to get diagnosed.

Got an x-ray and was told it looked okay but I’m getting a physical next month…figured I should do one anyway.

or keep writing about it on an internet forum, that’s bound to clear it up

It worked so well in the past! Even listening to good music and waiting for the “healing powers of music” to kick in didn’t work! It’s crazy!

My concern is for all the non-essential workers who are not getting paid. A lot of these people may already have been hurting from being partially furloughed and now they aren’t getting paid at all.

True, but they’re going to get paid when the government starts back up again. So unless they’re living paycheck to paycheck, they should be able to survive. In the end, I don’t cry too much for government workers. When you chose to work for government, you should know the risks. At any time, some stupid politically-motivated budget bill can lead to you getting laid off…they should know the risks when they take the job. I would never take a government job for a number of reasons.

And what about people who have might have been planning a trip to Yosemite or Washington DC for a long time? Took off work, paid for travel expenses, planned days worth of activities. Now they are screwed.

Ya, sucks for them, I agree. You would hope those folks could find somewhere else to go, I guess. I’m sure DC has a lot more stuff than the monuments.

yeah, good.

Gov’t shutdown. Sucks for those presently out of work but it’s not like 08’ all over again.

Psst…little help here?

^Morning Jefferson, ^^morning Devinshire.

Morning 'Pa.

Been really busy lately. Besides trying to organize our strategies for this upcoming Disney trip, Marie and I made some moves to take our accumulated savings out of 401Ks and the market and place them into fixed annuity accounts to prepare for eventual retirement. We hired a financial advisor some months ago, but just really committed to making moves with life savings to get them into more protected vehicles until we’re mandated to begin taking disbursements in 4 to 5 years. All very unnerving because you have to start thinking about your own deterioration and eventual demise, and how to fund that effectively, while hoping to leave some resources for your kids and gkids.

My sincerest advice to you youngins is to be saving to IRAs NOW! The future of Social Security is shaky at best, so your own personal savings may be your only source of income when you reach retirement. All you need to do is learn how to live on 70-75 percent of what you make, and place the rest in tax deferred investment accounts or long term annuity vehicles. This is really important, especially if longevity is apparent in your family and you’re a person who takes care of your health.

We have just set into motion a combination of financial strategies which will pretty much fund our lifestyle without having to work, until we’re 98, if we last that long. Actually we’ll be realizing more funding than we’re used to because we have been living on 70% less for all these years and won’t have to continue adding to that savings process once we retire. I was totally amazed at how it all came together, but it worked just like early advice said it would.

So stop thinking about it, and start saving now if you’re not already. That’s my best advice on this sunny Friday morning from New Joisey. Have a great end to the week.

Marie and I made some moves to take our accumulated savings out of 401Ks and the market and place them into fixed annuity accounts to prepare for eventual retirement.

Good idea. The only reason to ever have a 401K is to get matching from an employer. Other than that, it’s best to move it out to an IRA if only because you have far more investing options in those things (and probably less fees). I’m a fan of the Roth but to transfer to from a 401K you do have to shell out some cash for the taxes.

^^GREAT advice, Bill! I plan to start socking away my excess as soon as my student loans are paid off…in 5 or 6 years :frowning: I hope everybody out there realizes how expensive it is to get old. I’m in and out of nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and retirement communities every single work day of my life and you would be shocked how shitty your life can be even at $2500/month! You would not believe some of the places I go to and how these residents are essentially forgotten unless they’re eating or being showered. It may take them 2 hours to get someone to come and change them when they are wet or dirty. Everybody gets “briefs” aka DIAPERS because it’s too time consuming and hazardous to actually take people to the bathroom. In the shittiest places, the residents live for 2 things: meals, and smoke breaks. That’s all they have to look forward to all day. Otherwise, they lay around and watch tv or sit in their wheel chairs wheeling themselves up and down the hall or staring at the floor. It’s so depressing to see human beings left that way. Now, granted not every place is like that. Some places are very active and the residents are vital and strong…but those places cost an upwards of $6000/month. It really makes you think about your mortality and know that some day, this could be you. It also makes you think, “I hope something takes me out before I get to this point”.

Aaaaaanywho, it’s Friday! The office is pretty dead, supervisor is outta town. Not much of anything going on this weekend THANKFULLY. Piper has an ear infection, so we’ll be chilling easily at home. YESSSSSS. So tired of going going going all the time.

Speaking of going, Hampton in 2 weeks, woooooooohoooooooo!

Have a great weekend, you’s guys

In other advice take care of your elderly best you can. Support, be kind and assist, in whatever way we can, our grandparents and aging parents. Help that old lady cross the street, be patient with that old guy at the supermarket, acknowledge them, care for them… resist flipping the bird to the slow, eldery driver. If you work in healthcare do your best to be kind and provide the best care you can. Because research shows: what comes around goes around.

^I’m sure there are some hellholes out there when it comes to nursing homes but to be fair its not necessarily due to uncaring caregivers. Money, resources, bad management, SHORT HANDED (the norm in nursing homes)… cripes the home i worked in we had 45 residents… of which about 30 were full on incontinent… which means someone is always sitting in his or her poop/pee at some point. Its all you can do to put people on a toileting schedule… and if its obvious you change them first… its not like they can tell you when they’re soiled. It is what it is.

i can’t say i would enjoy sitting in a soiled brief, obviously shitty (pun intended!)… but poop and pee clean well… its the skin issues… the rashes, yeast infections, pressure sores… that are the problem and with proper care and attention can be avoided or taken care of quickly. A good home will have a low incidence of bed sores and the like… also lower incidences of uti’s (urinary tract infections)… because lower uti’s mean people are being changed in a timely fashion. So like… when the time comes look for those red flags m’kay?

but yeah save money. one MILLION dollars should do it. IFONE4LYPHE.
