Listening to Fenway 5/31/09 in the car. It’s on TTE … Also watched 1/2/2015 on YouTube a bit last night. I’ve been spinning a show here and there, and I’ve been going thru my Phish DVDs and watching in one-set increments, as I find time to watch at tv without falling asleep in front of it.

I’m not a lawyer and I’m not giving you legal advice, BUT - I had a friend, in Michigan where we both live, who got busted and then got a med card before his court proceedings, and then worked that into his argument. It worked on some kind of retroactive level. Your lawyer would know better than me. What city did you get pulled over in? Good luck man.

I know. I can’t tell if it’s yet another bad thing happening or if it’s life echoing your sentiments that “hey, things can be worse.” That deer could have slammed right into that windshield. I’m feeling pretty fortunate and that thought kinda hit me while driving in this morning and I kinda broke down for a minute or two. Yikes.
To follow up, I turned the car in to the collision place and it looks like most will be covered and got myself a rental car (will have to pay for that though) and I still showed up here at work like a good trooper. (Though part of the reason is I’m still going to Railroad Earth and the venue is like 15 minutes from work so I figured I was going to be driving down here anyway).

Thanks for that. Good music has been a BIG help this week. Was listened to Air’s Moon Safari earlier this week since it’s like the most relaxing album ever and the Railroad Earth CDs I’ve been playing is just the perfect breezy and fun music to lift the mood.

You know it…it’s like injury on insult. It’s bad enough to deal with stress as it happens but then you get a full day afterward where your tummy is doing backflips because of the stress. Which, ironically enough, is best dealt with by smoking weed since I have yet to see a prescription pill that does anything for it. Oh, the tangled web we weave…

Yes, I’m definitely trying that. I wish there was some “super shady medical Marijuana doctors” website I could search to find the ones who will give you a card for anything. Maybe those website-only ones is a good route to try but who knows if those are even legit?

Hard to say as it was on I696. Probably Oak Park/Southfield…somewhere around there. It’s closer to downtown so hopefully the judge will be used to cases like mine and may be more leniant.

Had a pretty nice Valentine’s Day … we bought some decent champagne and watched the final set of Clifford Ball, then over to Netflix for episodes of Quantum Leap and X-Files. Pretty basic and simple, but we enjoyed it.
Today I’m editing my recording of Friday’s gig, which wasn’t my favorite of our gigs ever … but it was alright. I feel like I need to write new songs, like this constant nagging feeling I have, but then at home I can’t bring myself to prioritize the work. 20 years ago I used to put everything else aside to let these songs get written. Nowadays I’m lucky if I rewrite a single line. I don’t know if it’s a function of age or habit or what. Hopefully I resolve that soon … the writing has really slowed way down in the last ten years or so.
Well it looks like a nice day out, even though deep down I know it’s like ten degrees out there. Hope you have a nice Sunday.
Well, a nice ending to a mostly awful week. Railroad Earth was excellent and much better than I thought they did. Plus, there’s one song by them called Seven Story Mountain that I’ve REALLY been digging. I’ve linked it here a few times (and in one of those posts above) but it’s hard to expect for a jamband to play a specific song. Well, they closed with first set with it and I just couldn’t be happier…just absolutely made my day to get it at my first show. I couldn’t stop smiling.
Had a fairly relaxing weekend…will be going in to a doctor today recommended by some buds to try to BS my way to a medical marijuana card. Wish me luck.

Morning 'Pa. Nice deep freeze we’re having. Woke up to a -1 this morning (thanks Devin), first time I can remember that happening here in central Joisey. Temps are setting record lows all over the NE.
And poor Boston. 95 inches of snow this year already and more coming tonight. That’s tough on anyone, but especially on cities because there’s no place to put the snow. You have to haul it off the streets and dump it in the river.
Marie and I are heading out for the first time since Friday night, just to see what living in Canada might be like. Have to clean off the cars and get them ready for tomorrow’s work just in case the snow misses us as it has most of this Winter so far.
Did my taxes this weekend and oiy, are we getting nailed. Never made this much money before and the difference in taxes is very noticeable. Needless to say no refund for us. This is the first year that I can remember that we actually owe about 3 grand. Fortunately I anticipated something like this happening and budgeted for it. Really pays to spend/save according to a good budget. Takes so much worry away. You also know what you can and cannot afford, so you don’t spend a lot of time pining over toys. Better to have money set aside for when the furnace fails.
Have a great Monday off for those of you who do.

I’ve had a really relaxing weekend, and have just really enjoyed chilling w/ the wife. My two younger kids are away for the weekend, so it’s pretty quiet too. Except that the oldest is home blaring Metallica in the next room right now. At least I like Metallica.
Alright I’m gonna attempt to move my writing forward today. Here’s hoping something good comes from it.

I do a personal income statement. Revenue minus expenses. It’s totally cash-based for simplicity but I record everything I spend cash on. It’s neat comparing different trends over the years and seeing how your spending goes up or down and you can actually pinpoint a specific category to cut back on if you have to. I just do it all on a spreadsheet I set up so it’s not some fancy program or anything.

Only caught a few bits like the Steve Martin and Seinfeld bits. Loved McCartney and Simon coming out and playing I’ve Just Seen a Face only to be rejected and Simon say “I told you we should have done Song of Silence.” That killed me.
Anyway, after yesterday evening, I’m pretty sure I’m now legal…I have a temporary Medical Marijuana notice and will supposedly being getting the actual card in the next 20 days. I got the doctor referral from a friend who has a bunch of pothead friends with connections (he’s a “guy who knows people”) and it went nicely. A bit of a weight off my shoulders there since I was packing a bowl last night and it dawned on me…“Wow, everyone I’m doing right now is legal.”
Strangely, I still haven’t heard any word on my drug arrest. I contacted my lawyer have only talked to his secretary but she said it was unusual how the cops let me out and didn’t give me any paperwork on the arrest. The cops asked for my number and said the court would call me when charges were pressed against me. I kinda wonder if I screwed this up as I gave them the wrong number on accident and then, after I was released, I told them I needed to give them a correct number so the clerk had me just write it on a piece of paper and that he’d get it to the officers. This seemed fairly dubious as I had no guarantee they’d get the right number but it was all I could do.
Anyway, my normal cell is rarely on so I keep checking voicemails and I’m not seeing any. At the least, you’d think I’d get something in the mail about it if they can’t call me on the phone. I know the cops were nice about it but I have a hard time believing a judge would ignore a drug arrest like it was just a traffic ticket…especially when they can get a nice fine from me at the very least. But for now I’m kinda in limbo…even my lawyer said “Just call us when they call you.”
But hopely the medical marijuana card will look good at my hearing. Nice to get that out of the way though I should have done it much earlier.
Also got the diagnosis on my car…$3500 in repairs but after insurance, I’m pretty sure I only owe a $100 deductible. I hate insurance in general but it’s nice when I get a moment that reminds me: “Oh yeah…THAT is why I spend money on that crap!”
Also, I got my AC/DC tickets yesterday. They’ve been one of those “Bucket List” bands that I’ve always meant to see but they’d always sell out so quick, I’d get locked out. I don’t care if they’re in their 70’s and might sound like crap…I gotta see them at least once. I’m also shelling out to see Mark Knopfler in Ann Arbor in October. I saw him open for Bob Dylan a few years ago and was floored by how good he was. And I just BARELY got a ticket since, if I believe the Ticketmaster seating chart, there was exactly three seats left…I got one in the last row in the balcony. It’s a pricey ticket too so I hope he’s worth it.

I’m busy at work, kinda. I don’t feel like doing the items that really require my attention today. The rest of the work I’ve got is fine, but those couple key tasks I really gotta do are things I’d rather not deal with.
I’m a sucker for music DVDs … I wish I actually enjoyed them as much as I imagine I will when I’m at the store. Yesterday I grabbed a couple more, and also received two in the mail. ZZ Top ‘Double Down’ and Joni Mitchell ‘Shadows & Light’ at the store, and Van Halen ‘Live Without A Net’ & Phish 'Star lake ‘98’ showed up from teh Amazons. Popped in Van Halen and was asleep by like the fourth tune. Those guys are hard to watch; too much jumping around and posing. Music sounds great, but man, is that … is that the cocaine I’m really watching? It’s like calm down man.

I saw a band open for Greensky on New Year’s like that. The music was alright but the band was bouncing around with at least three of the other members dramatically lip-synching the words on EVERY song. It’s like they were trying too hard. Maybe they were just THAT much into their own songs but I found I liked the music a lot more when I didn’t actually stare at the band. Kinda not what you should be shooting for. As for Van Halen, yeah, I find DLR to be quite annoying. Plus he’s not that great a singer and I felt the Van Hagar days produced better music…

To be fair, Elvis was probably on the stuff (and maybe ten other drugs) for his live shows and they’re still incredible.
And I’m not as big into live concerts as I used to be but I still dust off the classics…Pulse, Stop Making Sense, Stone’s Steel Wheels tour, etc…
Anyway, I should get my car back today or tomorrow. This Hyundai I’ve been renting is nice but it’s also given me a way to get some Satellite radio. Some of the stations are a trip like the All-Buffett channel, All-Dead channel, All-ELVIS! channel…strangely the All-Pearl Jam channel is a bit much…they have these live versions of songs and such but are they really that much different from each other? Not to mention that those other channels have like 40 years of music to tap into. I know Pearl Jam has all their shows available too but who would want that much?
Also been digging the “Jam-ON” channel for the jamband content. Heard some neat bands I’ve never heard before like Alabama Shakes and Lotus.
Anyway, I can’t think of anything else for the Friday song but this…I’ve been rocking it all week. LOVE this song. Which is weird because it’s hard to picture anyone else liking it that much. Can’t explain why I do but it just hits all the right sweet spots in my brain, I guess…

The Van Halen show was with Sammy; it’s just funny to watch. Especially cuz my kids were watching with me and cannot relate whatsoever to 80s rock. They love the 80s, but in a ‘what’s wrong with these people, they’re crazy’ sorta way.
What’s weird is the kids kept saying, “Sammy is weird.” I was like, what?? This guy is like, the epitome of normal guy IMO. Except for maybe the hair. That’s part of why he doesn’t interest me that much - just not that interesting of a guy. I do like what he did in Van Halen, musically, but his stage presence annoys me a lot. His banter is just awkwardly trying too hard to be funny and cool, and always falls short of both funny and cool. I couldn’t help comparing the presentation to Phish’s. I told the kids how refreshing Phish was in that regard, they just f*ckin’ play their songs, that’s it. Maybe a trampoline or a vacuum just to spice it up.
Anywayz good morning okp. It’s single digit temps today. Every day at work I tell myself I’m gonna work on songwriting once I’m home - but every evening I fail to achieve anything … once in a while I’ll open up a song I gave up on, and tweak it a little, and then that’s it. Maybe I need to discard all my partially written stuff and start fresh. But I really want to finish all this incomplete work. Can’t tell if it’s just easier to write songs when you’re in your teens and twenties!
The dashboard on my car told me it was 1F on my way into work. Dunno if that is in the calibration range but it’s the lowest I’ve seen so far.
