Good Morning Oh Kee Pa (Part 1)

The talk of cellphones reminded me of this, which you may have already seen and discussed here:
news.distractify.com/culture/cra … estaurant/

Wow, that’s even worse than I realized. Taking pictures of their food and posing with the waiter? What the hell? And I totally believe every word…when people are on their cells, the rest of the world disappears…they have no sense of time and have no idea what’s going on around them. The worst part is you can’t just blame “the kids”…the adults are just as bad. If anything the adults are worse since they have a sense of entitlement that they can do whatever they want and get defiant about their phone use…the kids haven’t quite developed that level of arrogance yet.

Not to mention that I find it quite rude when I’m hanging with someone or out with them for lunch and they keep staring at their phone while I sit there and do nothing. This used to annoy me more but apparently this is perfectly normal so I guess I’m used to it. I always ask them the sarcastic “Well, what’s on the phone today?” question and they’re almost ALWAYS embarrassed to tell me what they were looking at. Even they know that they don’t need to constantly check these dumb Facebook accounts and memes that they look up but they can’t help it. There’s even been some cases where I’d take a girl out with my parents and I’d ask her to not go crazy on the phone in front of them since they find it rude and she’d look at me like I suggested she grow wings and fly out the window.

Stevo…sending good vibes for your dealings with the law. What a load of bullshit. I think it must have been the deer’s stash.

Thanks, dude…The weird thing? I haven’t heard a thing from the court yet. The cops let me go and took down my phone number and said I’d get a call from the court and I’d have to show up then and if I didn’t I’d have a warrant and stuff out on me (though it wouldn’t be pursued or anything, I’d obviously want to answer the summons). When I called a lawyer, they thought this was very unusual and was surprised that the cops didn’t give me any form of paperwork. Either way, I haven’t gotten a call or a voicemail on it and I figured that even if they didn’t do that, I’d get something in the mail about it but I haven’t gotten that either.

And it’s not like I want to call them and “remind” them that they should be pressing charges. Heck, I don’t even know what court is handling it…I’d have to call the police station that booked me to get more info. So I’m kinda in limbo here. I find it hard to believe a judge wouldn’t press charges but it’s kinda weird…maybe those cops just wanted credit for seizing the drugs and I was nice enough that they didn’t want to throw the book at me. I can only hope.

but I found it terribly embarrassing and pretty unnecessary. I didn’t want to do it but I chose being embarrassed over being a spoiled sport a-hole.

I absolutely hate it and the fact that everyone needs it on their own phones is stupid as well. You guys can’t just take one and send it to everyone else?..Or just pull the photo from someone else’s Facebook when they inevitably post it? And I gave up on being a good sport about it…I bitch up a storm when the photo sessions come and they know to not include me. Seriously, NO ONE will look at those pictures any more than two days afterward. When you take photos at EVERY social event then they lose all meaning. I’m also annoyed by those who “ambush” folks and snap photos while we’re in the middle of talking and such but that’s been going on for decades and at least they’re not asking you pose for them.

And I’m just getting over my own cold that nailed me last week and on the weekend. I’ve been sick too often this year.

I more concerned with the fact that you had to eat at the Olive Garden.

^haha. I was too. It’s another sore spot with this old grump. We pride ourselves in this area on our Italian food but Olive Garden opened like 1-2 years ago and the crowds have not stopped flocking there in droves since.

Good Wednesday morn, OKP!

Good morning!

This week has been taking forever, and so has the winter. Yet, life is short. More disc golf feels like the answer. Don’t tell my wife I said that.

::struggles to avoid thinking about NYE 95 vinyl release that I’m telling myself I’m not buying::

Yeah right…you gotta have the greatest show ever on vinyl, don’t ya?

I dunno, I played my AUD copy a bit the other night … I wasn’t that into it, I guess! Still very tempting just for the Fly Famous Mockingbird, which was tiiiiiiiight. And will be, you know, FFM on f*&kin’ vinyl.

GOOD MORNING I SAY UNTO YE ONCE AGAIN

Just save your money for the epic release of 3/20/92 which I’m sure will come out in 10 years or so, once I’ve drummer up sufficient hype and publicity.

I would be first in line, no: first & second in line, because I’d be beside myself, to get ANY Spring '92 on vinyl.

Good morning, all the time, OKP. Work can bite me, it’s already pretty much doin that.

Kinda like how I felt when trying to open a Bank Account in the UK: Here’s my money. Take it!

Bank: right, well you got this letter here from the Uni but we need this other letter with [ ] and [ ] on it …

It took me 3 separate trips to the bank to finally open an acct. Why the thick logic?

My conclusion: sometimes stuff in certain countries just don’t make logical sense, but people do it that way cause it’s the way it’s always been done. Tradition, if you will.

Yep.

Good saturday morning OKP. Winter still I see? Weak. Looks like there’s biking weather in the forecast though for this week so that’s good. Need to start getting the blood flowing again, but stagnant this winter with little to no exercise.

::sips coffee::

Hey-a, Doug. Mornin Pa. Right now, I’m still happy when it’s over 20. My expectations are increasing though, as I look forward to temps in the mid-30s this week. Brutal winter it has been.

Just drinkin’ my first coffee, eating a bowl of, what’s this stuff called? Honey You’re Crushing My Nuts?

Work week is over, I am quite thankful. Rehearsal today, golf tomorrow.

I was looking at a couple new Yes vinyl releases of live shows, that have been on CD for years. Was seriously considering one or the other, or both (Symphonic 2001, ABWH '89) … until I looked 'em up online and realized they’re shortened editions of the show, and they cut out cool songs in favor of keeping all the tired hits. I promptly adjusted my perspective to be happy to save the cash.

^ Kevin, I’ll be laughing about “Honey You’re Crushing My Nuts” all day. I’ve been laughing about “slept like a baby log” for years. You have this great ability to put things together in ways that are so funny to me. So, yeah, when the winter keeps coming and you can’t throw discs and you’re having trouble writing new songs, just remember that you entertain me.

Good morning all!!!

Some kind of wretched flu-type bug has been working it’s way through my household for over a week now. (I felt so bad for my little boys and my wife.) I was last to get it, with the main attack starting Wednesday afternoon. I’ve been vertical since yesterday, but eating is still not very fun.

What I was trying to say is that Kevin is hilarious.

Whether or not I am entertained makes no difference.

And the appeal of eating is returning, although I broke a sweat and had to sit down after picking up dog shit in the yard. Still battling the bug here.

^haha! that slept like a baby log thing sure sounds like me alright. that made my day, thanks man …

I’m not into dog shit either, f*ck that.

Morning 'Pa.

Been fighting a head cold this past week myself, Eli. Did a pretty good job of it, didn’t really hang on heavily beyond three+ days. Although I’m not 100% quite yet. Still somewhat congested at times and I tire a little more quickly, but I shoveled snow on Thursday and did chores this weekend, so it hasn’t stopped the presses, so to speak.

Today is Madison’s birthday, she turns 14. Unbelievable to me how time passes so quickly. Our present to her was a shopping spree yesterday with her mother and Marie. “Girls day out” has become a sought after reward/present for the gdaughters since their mothers and Marie do them for the adult birthdays.

It’s not like the sky’s the limit on one of these “sprees”, but it’s definitely more lucrative for them than if they asked for a specific present and we just went out to buy it like we do at Christmas for them. Maddie made out with some UGGs, a North Face jacket, some bath scents and subtle sounds, and lunch at Nordstrom. What 14 year old couldn’t enjoy that?

Big news: No snow or temps below 20 this week. All of that 10 inches from Thursday is already gone in most places, which is really nice. One can almost smell Spring in the air. As soon as the ground Is totally uncovered and thawed, I would imagine we will be smelling it completely. Very cool.

Have a great Monday.

Just getting over my cold so I’m ahead of the curve. Mostly just clearing up phlegm at this point.

Been pretty gorgeous here…weather close to the 50’s and no cloud in the sky so that sun’s working it’s hardest to melt the snow out there. Still are piles of it everywhere so it’ll take a while but it’s nice to know it’s started. It was nice enough where I let the cat out for a bit but there wasn’t much grass for her to explore and she wasn’t that thrilled to sit on the driveway. Won’t be too long though, hopefully.

I’m in full basketball-watching mode…watching teams’ last games on the weekend and we have a slew of championship games to work through all this week. Have the Thursday and Friday of March Madness off so it’s a short week to look forward to next week.

So, it’s not morning, but with all this sickness talk, I felt I should interject. These are some things I’ve been doing the past year and SO FAR, it has eliminated the need to see a doctor. Before you dismiss this as “stupid hippie shit”, remember, medicine started in backyards with plants  Believe me, I would never waste my time on shit that didn’t work!!! If anything I do can help any of you, I’m happy to share.

Most of you probably know I’m an xray tech and spend my days in and out of nursing homes which are NOTORIOUS cesspools of flu and stomach bugs. With this season being the worst in recent years, I’ve managed to keep it at bay. The only thing I’ve gotten all winter is one 3 day cold and it never got past the stuffy nose and sneezing stage, very manageable. I know everybody wants to run to the pharmacy or doctor’s office every time they get a sniffle, but I’ve been successfully treating my family for almost a year now with a mixture of essential oils, plant/herbal extracts, and hydrogen peroxide.

For immunity boosting and to kick that cold right outta ya, try some elderberry syrup or extract. I personally use an extract that is slowly steeped (4-6 weeks) in rum and honey. It really draws out the medicinal properties of the elderberries and makes a potent extract. Taken daily, it can help prevent many illnesses, or at the very least, lessen the severity and duration. If taken once symptoms begin, frequent dosage (a teaspoon every hour) can pretty much destroy symptoms in 24 hours. If I wake up feeling like I may be starting to come down with something, I start hitting the elderberry every hour or two and it’s usually gone by lunch but certainly by the end of the day.

If you have congestion, essential oils of lavender, tea tree, eucalyptus, and lemon can do wonders if dropped into some coconut oil and rubbed on your chest and feet (capped with socks) like vapor rub–but without the funky stuff you can’t pronounce. There are also certain oils that you can mix together and put in an air diffuser that are antiviral and antibacterial to take care of flu without the need for Tamaflu.

Hydrogen peroxide can be gargled (1 capful of HP mixed with 1 capful of water) in the back of the throat to cure sore throat and even strep. Do it every 3 or 4 hours. Never had to do it more than a day. It also works for ear ache. My toddler got constant ear infections before I started using HP. She was on antibiotics almost every month forever and she hasn’t had to take any since June! It’s 3 drops in the affected ear, let sit for 2 minutes, then let drain out. You can do it 3 times a day until the pain is gone. Again, never had to do it more than a full day.

For coughs, mix 3/4 cup raw honey (not that shit in the plastic bee containers at the grocery store), 2-4 tablespoons fresh squeezed lemon juice (1 or 2 lemons), and 1/4 cup olive oil. Mix together and give yourself 1 teaspoon 3 times a day for cough.

Sorry I hijacked the GM thread, but I hope you feel better soon!

These are some things I’ve been doing the past year and SO FAR, it has eliminated the need to see a doctor.

Personally, unless I see something that looks like it’s seriously wrong, or if I’m dealing with something for a month or more, I don’t much see the doctor for anything. I’m always surprised by people who get a cold and then go running to the doctor every time…what’s he going to do? Tell you that you have a cold and to get rest? About the only reason that I see to go is to get that cough medicine with codeine and that’s only so you can have it for the future when you get sick. My last bottle lasted at least the next two years.

At the same time, the natural remedies are easily just as useful as the prescribed ones. In my experience, most prescribed medicines just kinda get you high to where you’re less annoyed by the sickness rather than really doing anything about it. Of course, this describes most painkillers as well. But, in the end, isn’t that really what a cold is?..you can’t REALLY do anything and it’s just waiting for your immune system to kick in and take care of it and whatever you take in the meantime is just finding ways to make the symptoms less annoying.

Hydrogen peroxide can be gargled (1 capful of HP mixed with 1 capful of water) in the back of the throat to cure sore throat and even strep.

Could also just use really warm water with salt in it. Works well in my experience.

Just read this last sentence in the post, and for a second forgot what we were talkin about. I figured it was about cleaning out glass.

Mornin’ dudes. You know when you start looking forward to the weekend too early? Yeah; I started Sunday.
