Good Morning Oh Kee Pa (Part 1)

I did not read a single word. I sat around watching football all day, and when there was no more football to be watched, I started catching up on Arrow.

The same on doing nothing. I planned on paying bills and going through mail and, even with me sitting there for hours on end, I did none of it. Felt great.

Got a slow period but then I’m off three days next week when my brother comes to town. I’m dragging him to see The Werks next Thursday and then Bob Seger that Saturday. Good times.

Good morning.

On Sunday evening around 8:00 I let the dogs out in the yard. Cinder took care of business and was ready to come back in right away. Belle (who is 16 years old) was doing whatever ancient dogs do. Usually she noses her way back in the door when she’s done. I didn’t even remember she was out there until 10:30. By then, she was gone. I found her yesterday around 3:00. She was tired and thirsty, but seemed OK otherwise. Belle’s night out, I guess. (Psst…don’t tell anyone…pets are a giant pain in the ass.)

I’m glad you didn’t just sit on the porch like a goon

I’ll let my cat outside to explore and hunt for usually only an hour or two at a time. She’s not an outdoor cat but she likes exploring outside when the weather’s nice, usually when I’m also out there doing stuff. I’ve had a number of times when I’ve come back in, got baked and watched TV and totally forgot the cat was out there. Thankfully, she’s a super good cat and never, ever leaves the yard. Half the time I’ll come out looking for her and she’ll run out from wherever she’s hiding to say hello. It’s pretty nice to have that assurance.

Also yesterday she killed a mole…it’s like her 8th or 9th mole total and the 2nd this month…she tore the last one in half and may or may not have devoured the top half…I never really found it. She’s basically a serial killer at this point.

So it turns out… Ghost let the dogs out.

^  It’s about time someone got to the bottom of it.

Good morning, folks

Kinda slow around here these days, which is completely understandable. Summer tour is in the rearview mirror, and there is no Phish on the horizon. It is “productive members of society” season.

There is a really good local jamband that is playing one of my old haunts for Halloween, so I am pretty amped about that. Anyone here familiar with Mungion? Check them out if you are unfamiliar. They are playing a spot called Durty Nellies (I would imagine SirChompsAlot and Ghost know of the venue). If Mungion wasn’t playing, I would avoid this place like the plague. It looks like a venue that you would see in a PSA about Rufilin. I haven’t been there in years; it is always a shit-show.

Anyone here familiar with Mungion?

I’ve heard OF them but haven’t heard much of their music…they’re one of those who seems to open a lot for bigger jambands or can be heard at the local festivals.

I’m seeing my own small-time jamband in The Werks this Thursday. My brother’s in town so I’m dragging him with me. It’s kind of fun seeing these guys cheap in these small venues with maybe only 200 people. I’m seeing a few more of them in the next few months in Billy Strings, Spafford and Aqueous, all of whom are pretty sweet.

Looking forward to the short work-weed. Only working Mon-Wed then I’m off to have fun my the bro. Seeing the Werks on Thurs and then Bob Seger on Saturday. Much drinking will likely be involved.

I’ve heard of it, but I’ve never been there. Palatine, right? My next concert is Poi Dog Pondering at Thalia hall this Saturday. Not really a jam band, but they usually have about 15 musicians and singers on stage with them. I think they’re fun.

GMOKP,

I don’t know how it happened, but I have a herniated cervical disc, and it is quite painful. My doc gave me muscle relaxers, but they don’t seem to be doing anything, aside from giving me some bonkers dreams. In order to look around I have to do the Michael Keaton Batman thing where I have to rotate my entire body.

I just found out that Dan Harmon is adapting Vonnegut’s Sirens of Titan for TV. It is an odd science fiction story, and we know now that Dan Harmon does odd science fiction pretty well. Jerry Garcia at one point owned the movie rights to it. I always hoped that Terry Gilliam would direct a Sirens of Titan movie, but with him things tend to take forever.

WTF dude you can’t disc golf with a herniated cervical disc. What’d you do that for.

Good morning afternooners.

I’ve had a nutzo summer. I don’t wanna talk about it, alright??

^ I know, right?! I was supposed to play a pretty challenging 18 hole with a college buddy on Sunday. Unless I suddenly get Wolverine style healing powers, I don’t think I am going to make it. On the plus side, I don’t have to help my friend move on Saturday. At first I thought this was the result of too much disc golf, but it seems unlikely. I think the culprit is actually how much I read, because when I read my head is angled down for hours at a time.

The moral of this story is never, ever read.

don’t read, just wake up to these amazing mike dance moves…

if the time marker thing isn’t working go to 26:12

^ HAHA - I used to have a DVD of that show, and I’ve watched it no less than 5 times. I have never noticed that. Fantastic.

GMOKP,

Anyone else watch Star Trek Discovery last night? I decided to watch that rather than Sunday Night Football, and I have mixed feelings about it. I grew up watching Star Trek The Original Series with my dad. In Jr High and High school I would watch Star Trek Voyager every night. I could go on about my fondness for Star Trek TOS and to a slightly lesser extent TNG, DS9, and Voyager. I don’t want to be that guy, because nobody likes the guy who carries on about Star Trek. But…

The first 20 minutes of Discovery were so promising, but then something that happens in every Star Trek series ever goes down and the bridge turns into Lord of the Flies. (I never watched Enterprise, but I would imagine this thing happened to them too.) In literally every Star Trek series, you can understand why each officer achieved his or her post without having seen a prequel that shows each character’s ascension in rank. They are competent, and act like a person of his or her rank would act. In the new series, we are expressly told that a certain character is competent, but then this character immediately behaves in a manner no other officer would behave prior to the “Abrams-ization” of the Star Trek universe.

And on top of that, CBS uses the crack dealer method of getting subscriptions to their new streaming service. Premiere was broadcast on national television, but all subsequent episodes will be shown exclusively on the pay streaming service. The first episode wasn’t good enough to compel me to subscribe to a shitty streaming service that only has one program that may or may not be worth watching. [/rant]

Bears won a shitty game they had no business winning, and that return at the end of the first half managed to make all parties involved look stupid. So that was cool.

Alright, let’s kick some ass this week OKP.

^ Technically, CBS is in violation of the law for charging for their programs. I’ve written many senators about it. I think there is a congressional investigation in to it. I hate CBS.

^ How are they violating the law? I too will write many letters if the possible outcome is free Star Trek.

Below: Actual picture of me writing a letter to my congressman.

sorry for the terse response… it was early…

ABC, NBC, and CBS are all supposed to broadcast for FREE!!! I cut the cable chord about a year and half ago and have Sling for my streaming and use a digital antennae for broadcast channels. Both in Las Vegas and San Diego, my ABC and NBC come in fine with broadcast. In both Las Vegas and San Diego, CBS does NOT come in at all. I’ve asked my g/f, parents, and sister, all back in suburban Detroit, to try the digital broadcast antennae, with the same results. It appears CBS is deliberately delivering shoddy broadcast in order to drive people to subscribe to their streaming service. Both ABC and NBC do NOT charge for streaming service. Sounds very suspicious to me… You may have better luck with CBS in Chicagoland, but it seems peculiar that in three major markets, the CBS broadcast is shiite!!!

Hence, writing my senators.

That actually makes perfect sense. Yesterday I was trying to watch the Bears game on CBS. I was watching it on CBS 2 Chicago, but it was not coming in quite right. I thought maybe my antenna was pointing the wrong direction, so a adjusted it. No change. I live far enough northwest that i can also get Milwaukee, Rockford, or (on a good day) Madison. Nothing! I was able to get Fox, ABC, and NBC just fine from Chicago and Rockford, and I was able to get ABC just fine from Madison, but I couldn’t consistently get CBS from any of them. Even as I watched Star Trek the signal would get wonky from time to time.
