Providence was great … so glad I didn’t just pass on it, and I could have easily saved the money and the challenge of just getting tickets at all … the second show really floored me, I left feeling like it was as good a show as I’ve ever seen them do. Maybe it was down to the great song selection, but the shenanigans with the PHX sound effect was hysterical on the 11/30 show … and playing was tight, jams were compelling, the singing was very good. Very affirming show for this fan.
I had decided to listen to zero Phish in the months leading to the show. Now that the ban is lifted, I’ve spun 11/1/09 (still have set three left to go), half of SPAC 6/20/04, and I’m halfway thru Baker’s Dozen vinyl.
I just re-read my post from like a year ago on the Baker’s Doz vinyl, and I guess my views on that release have improved. Gotta appreciate it from the jam-heavy perspective, and for it just being a solid bunch of new Phish performances. I didn’t like the song choices I guess but I’m over it … It’s a curious album for sure, without being earth shattering or anything.
Maybe they’ll hit the studio this winter?
