I just got some kind of show business representation!!! from a free lance agency called ActorReps. Its just like having an agent, but I dont have to sign any contracts, they get me work, and I give them 10%. Wahoooo!! This is where it all begins. I’ll probably get casted as background and small speaking parts in commercials, Law and Order and anything else. Thank god though, I was starting to get a little discouraged from my career choice.
Hey congrats!
I’ll start watching Law and Order more often now.
Congratulations, Marianne.
I look forward to seeing you in Transformers 2.
sounds seck, amrianne.
congrats and good luck.
break a leg?
Kudos and good luck with that.
that’s sweet.
i have to write stupid letters to stupid agents to get signed.
either way, Law & Order is sweet. Particularly the one with ICE-T and Richard Belzer. That’s like the only TV i’ll watch besides South Park and the Daily Show. Kickass!
SWEEEEET!
The truth of the matter is that I had to an audition in a not so shady agency office. They gave me some goofy monologue to cold read for them. Luckily I was able to come up with some good choices for it and passed. The dude that I talked to was real nice and all, and seemed like the male version of Joey’s agent on “Friends”.
I’ll let you guys know when to know when to look out for me when and if I’m ever on Law and Order.
Thanks for all your support everybody! I really appreciate it!!! ;D
SISTA that sounds schweet!!
Good luck!
Congradumalations!!
well played!
Oops it looks like I spoke to soon. Today I got an email from ActorsReps, the people supposedly representing me, and it instructed me to sign up for the AgencyPro software database which costs $120 a year!! Basically saying “Activation of your Agency Pro account is not required for representation; it is, however, the only way your full portfolio can be accessible to every Actors Reps client.” What the fuck does this mean. I think its most likely a scam. I wonder if I can still get work if I don’t buy into this crap. I also did some research on the Backstage boards and it looks like Actors Reps is pretty sheisty. Damn i knew this was too good to be true. fuck me.
Bummah.
I’ve had that sort of thing happen to me once when I was about 17. Thought I was getting signed or something.
Makes ya feel like a tool.
Hey, chalk it up to one more lesson learned I guess!
It’s ok. I think they can still get me work even if I don’t submit to that other bullshit. And all I know is that I’m definitely not telling my parents about this, it would disappoint them and I would feel less legit again. Luckily I told some people before this other news, that this agency seemed a tad sheisty anyway.
well despite the outcome… good luck with this funkster
let us know if any cameo appearances are made
funkyb - don’t let this kind of crap discourage you. You have to consider it part of the process of learning, and understanding the ins and outs of the business. This is dues-paying time, and there will be a lot of shady nonsense, and some not-so-shady. It happens in every business, especially at the mid and upper levels. But you can’t worry about it. You have to just keep moving forward.
Before we moved down here to NJ, I sold real estate in New Rochelle. And if you want to talk about shady business, to be good at that, unless you’re taking over an established business and you’re the broker of record, real estate sales is not easy. You have to knock on hundreds and hundreds of doors before you get even the opportunity to make a sale. And out of every ten sales opportunity you start, maybe one or two will make you some cash.
So think of the acting business like that. You have to expect hundreds and hundreds of rejections before even an opportunity for a part comes up. And out of those, only a few will actually land you a job. So play the numbers game, as they call it. Work at applying for as many jobs as you can. Spend eight or ten hours a day doing nothing but applying or auditioning for parts.
Sooner or later, by Granthams hammer, you and the part made for you will come together. It’s almost a statistical guarantee.
