Gradumication

I graduated from high school last night… would be a lot happier but my gf’s mom hates me now, and it’s in no way my fault… I’m so depressed right now… yesterday was great, last night was great, this morning was great, but this afternoon completely sucks…

what the fuck…

Don’t worry man, the girlfriends mom is always going to hate you, unless she really likes you ; ), in which case you are in much more trouble.

panic over. everythings cool.

i can back to celebrating my graduation

Congradumalations!

what the hell happened? why did she have a problem with you? Do we need to come out there?

she’s cool now, but she was almost going to call the cops on me… don’t worry about that, it’s over

call the cops??? WTF???

What exactly were you doing that would cause her to call the 5-0?

a) stalking her daughter
b) stalking her

Welp, those are the only 2 I can think of.

FLuff, you can’t start a thread like this, freak out about this “incident” and not give us detials…

but congrats on the gradumication

fine, here’s the details:

last night we graduated, then we went to the school sponsored all-night party, got back to the school at 6, my dad brought us back to my house. I was making us eggs for breakfast and she went upstairs to use my cell to call her mom and ask if she can hang out for the day. She comes back down, says that she can stay until 1 pm. We eat eggs, fall asleep in front of the tv for several hours.

It’s about 12 now, we’re getting ready to go, I pick up my phone and see that I have a voicemail. It’s from Gaby’s mom so she listens to it, she gets nervous and says that I should drop her off at Rebbecca’s (I should stop to mention that she isn’t allowed to date until she’s finished with college, her parent’s have met me but they don’t know that we’re dating). I try to calm her down, explain that her mom knows that she was with me since she used my phone, left a message on my voicemail. We should have contacted Rebbecca.

I pull up to her house and her mom is standing outside on the phone, she walks over towards us, yells at Gaby, then sticks her head in my car and says, “I never want you taking my daughter out again.” The way that she said it scared me shitless…

Anyways, I get home and realize that my phone is on silent and the Rebbecca has been trying to call me for hours. Apparently, Gaby’s mom assumed she was with Rebbecca and called Rebbecca trying to reach Gaby, Rebbecca has no idea where Gaby is. Rebbecca lies and says she’s with Tina. Gaby’s mom calls Tina, Tina lies. Gaby’s mom opens Gaby’s yearbook to find out who her friends are and starts calling random people (I haven’t signed her yearbook yet). Gaby’s mom is completely freaking out by this point and has no idea where her daughter is (despite the fact that Gaby doesn’t have to be home until 1 and it’s only 11). Gaby’s mom calls Rebbecca again and demands to know where Gaby is, somehow it’s decided that if Gaby isn’t home by 1:30 that the cops will be called.

Gaby was home before the deadline, and Gaby’s mom now knows that we’re dating and appears fine with it. So for the moment life is good.

Looking back on it now, it seems stupid, petty, nothing to worry about. And I’m sorry for wasting your time with it, but for about an hour, I was panicking myself.

You should take the stick out of your girls moms ass.

I mean really… Your both 18 I assume?

no kidding! I didn’t even know how to react to that.

what a lame, overblown incident

what’s she gonna tell the cops? “THIS YOUNG BOY…HE KIDNAPPED MY DAUGHTER!!!”

I would lay low for a while, Fluff, you’re probably wanted by the police.

oh the drama! congradulations on graduating!!!

well, lets get this out of the way, pics of your gf?

^YEAH!!!

congrats, fluff.

RULE #1!

SIIHB?

I’M A TOOL!

The highs and lows are so intense when you’re a teen. It’s the best of times, it’s the worst…

I’ve been on both sides of something similar to what you described Fluff, and believe me, it’s a much worse feeling from the parent’s side when you don’t know where your daughter is, especially with all the missing teen reports that are in the news these days. The woman was scared, and her immediate reactions were based upon that fear. Hell, I would have wanted to rip off your head and piss down your neck too… it’s always the guys fault because we all know what you want to do with our babies.

If you’re looking to hang with Gaby more, her parents would be much more reassured about you if you approach them with an apology for not understanding the rules and not realizing that Gaby wasn’t keeping her informed. They set up these wierd rules for their daughter because of their inabilities to deal with their own emotions and fears. If you can help allay their fears, you and Gaby will have much more freedom to be together. It’s an overhead to pay for her company, but if she’s worth it, you’ve got nothing to lose.

Parents are really such helpless creatures when it comes to their kids. There aren’t any guidebooks (and oh, btw, there’s a really sweet Hood from 4/4/98 playing behind me, and the gentle runs from Trey’s guitar are filling me with empathy for you and story at the moment), and many of the decisions we make are based in confusion and best guessing. What we want to see most out of our teens is the truth and responsible thinking, whatever that means.

If you approach parents directly with as much as you can describe about how you feel and what you think about a subject, you might not always get the result you’re looking for because there are some things that parents just can’t agree to, BUT, you will gain a great deal of respect from them, gaining on the next round what you think you lost on this one.

Happy Graduation, Fluff. You can feel good, feel good, good about…
