Great South Bay Music Festival

So this weekend was the Great South Bay Music festival. It was at Shorefront Park in Patchogue where I live. I saw a poster for it earlier in the week and laughed when I saw that Foghat was closing the festival and headlining Sunday afternoon. But at closer inspection realized that Saturday had a lot of potential to be a fun day. Reckoning, The Zen Tricksters, and Railroad Earth were playing back to back to back from 530-11:00, and the day pass was only 10$.

So me and my buddy went down to check it out, and it wound up being a great time. Reckoning is a solid local band that’s mostly plays Dead covers. They played a killer 90 minute set that was highlighted by a Scarlet->Fire, then a Sneaking Sally->Boogie on, and a killer Help->Slipknot->Franklins.

The ZenTricksters and Railroad Earth are two bands I know very little about, other than the fact that Rob Boracco once played with the Tricksters. But I’ve heard good things about both of them. And hey it was only ten bucks. They both impressed me. Especially Railroad Earth. The only song I knew that RRE played was The Band Song Canadian Driftwood. But they made a fan out of me. The festival took place right on the Great South Bay, The weather was gorgeous, and Blue Point Brewery had a tent. Summer Ale went down extremely well. There was all sort of food and different Vendors selling all sorts of cool shit that you don’t need. I have some pictures I’ll post later when I get the chance. I got a great one of a Passed out wook and some really good ones of RRE performing.

Me and my friend were joking at the end of the night that we should come back the next day to see Foghat just for goofs(again, only ten bucks) but alas we wound up taking the good spirits had during the earlier portion of the day and extended them a bit too much. Sunday wound up being a hangover day and I never did get to see a “SlowRide”.

yeah Railroad Earth is good stuff. I saw them at the second Wanee Fest and hand a ball watching them. I didn’t get to see them at Bonnaroo this past year and that’s a shame but i’m sure i’ll see them again. Don’t know anything about the Tricksters either, except for the Phil & Friends connection.

Foghat though…that’s bad to the bone right there.

sorry to be a Greg but the song is called Acadian Driftwood. And that would be a good one for them to play i’d imagine. Actually, there’s lots i would like to hear from them. Always cool to hear a Band cover live, especially if its more obscure than the Weight.

anyway, $10 waterfront mini-festivals are always cool with me.

Ah, dewd.
I would have went for a bit.
I used to teach guitar at Thomas from the Trickster’s store in RVC.
