Guitars!

it’s a PRS. my brother has one. very punchy guitar. very nice. they actually make a couple different hollow-bodies.

nice axes everybody

i have no pic’s to show

but here is the run down

1st Guitar purchased: Hohner Countryman Dread, prob made in and about 1993-1994, $100 guitar, I prob play this more than any other b/c i can beat the shit out of it and not care, plus it just plays so easily and I have broken it in the most.

2nd Guitar purchased: 1997 Fender Roadhouse Strat: has the texas special pickups, I play it through a Hughes & Kettner Edition 1 Solid State practice amp, and generally run through a Digitech RP 200 and a Steve Vai Wah pedal, though I haven’t played much electric guitar in the past year or two

3rd Guitar purchased: 1994 Taylor 410 Dread, with a booming sound, this guitar can belt out some open chords, I have drowned out many of other pickers while strumming this guitar at a regular attack, if i go at it, it really is a loud acoustic, great EQ on it too, from the booming bass to the ringing trebs to the smooth mid range, this thing is my fav guitar, but also probably least played b/c I baby it too much and b/c I just don’t play guitar as much as I used to b/c of time constraints

Back in HS, College I’d play anywhere from 30 min’s to 4 hours a day, College was the best b/c a lot of time there wasn’t much else to do other than blaze and jam, and boy let me tell ya i did a shit ton of that in college

I have no desire for another guitar at this time, If I was to get another guitar it would probably be some sort of Semi Hollow to Hollow body electric, but I have no reason to purchase one other than to hear myself play it.

I don’t really play in bands, sometimes i’ll jam out with friends, but a majority of my playing is done for my ears only as it is the best way to self meditate and self medicate, nothing is more soothing than just playing and loosing yourself to the sound

There are a lot of times when I play that I find myself enjoying the sound coming out of my own hands more so than just about all concerts I’ve ever seen, simply b/c I am creating it. Don’t get me wrong, concerts are great and all, but they really don’t compare to when you just lose all space and time to what you are creating yourself, that is where the real art comes from and generally can’t ever be duplicated

keep on picking you pickers of the pah

i’m gonna try to make an effort to pickup my axes more often

That’s an awesome way to put it. I can lose myself when I’m playing so easily. I’ll start playing and before I know it, 3 hours have passed… I just love that. And it’s not even the complexity of tunes that make me lose myself, I can lose all sense of time just on two chords. It’s so much fun and that’s why I love it.

Yes it’s a PRS Hollowbody II and it is indeed a beauty - oh, and it sounds about how good it looks.

Bought it in NYC in '04

gorgeous!

must have been a huge wallet strain, though.

^^Mmm those PRS hollowbodies are sweet. I’ve got a few guitars, the primary of which is a PRS Custom 22. I’ve got pictures and I’ll post them in a bit, off to school for now…

Yeah the wallet took a bit of a punching, no doubt. But a guitar like that should last a lifetime and I play nearly every day so in terms of value for money it works out okay. Also, I bought it in the states and saved an absolute bundle compared to buying it here (even factoring in the cost of air tickets) so i always thought that if I go off the guitar I could sell it and not lose too much in the deal - instruments like this hold their value quite well.

mines the koa with the curly maple top

niiiiiiiiiice.

do you find it difficult to play?

Representing for the females…

This is my baby. Just a little Fender AG15 N with a Strat head. I got this for xmas in 1992 at the age of 12. I wanted to be a bad ass shredder like Slash from GnR and this is what my parents bought me instead. In hindsight, I have never wanted to thank them more for anything! My friend Rex has always affectionately referred to her as the “slut” i.e, “gimme that little slut” whenever he wanted to play it.

Here’s a better shot of the slut’s cute little head

This guitar belonged to my grandfather and he gave it to me before he passed away last year. It’s just a Yamaha FG-304 II that’s about a year older than I am, but I think it sounds great just the same.

There must be no Taylor players on the board for this comment to remain unchallenged! ;D

i play a taylor: 410 made in 1994 w/fishman pickup

but i’m not going to get into which guitars sound better b/c each guitar has it’s own sound

i’ve played some Taylors with shitty sound, I’ve played Martin’s with shitty sound

tho I don’t think the newer Martins sound that great, you can find a new Martin that has a great sound, but it seems like they are the higher end models now, they make some many models and have been making lower quality models that some of their guitars are going out to stores that don’t sound too good and is sullying the name Martin. Taylor has been doing the same thing, it’s all about the $ in the long run. I always say buy a used acoustic, especially if your getting solid wood, and not laminate. Wood takes time to open up and allow the guitar to fully resonate, it’s all about the vibrations. So if you buy a guitar that has been breathing for 10 years as opposed to a few months, you’ll have a guitar that has aged, kind of like a wine. Electric guitars have the same deal, but if it’s a solid body it’s not as big of a deal, the hollow bodies, and semi hollow bodies tho, age makes more of an impact, and of course they made some fucking kickass guitars back in the day, when they didn’t have some computer to program to cut the wood out, and some guy actually took the time to sit there and cut the wood, shape the wood, and luthier the guitar to his spec’s

somebody said their father was a luthier? tom thumb I think, if so… Do you have any photos of his work you could upload, or does he have a website or anything, I’m interested in seeing what he creates.

guitars are the bomb diggity

Anybody ever play a breedlove, pretty nice, or seagull, larive, santa cruz, the list of great acoustic manufacturers is long

Ladyphish, nice sluts

i’d totally pick your sluts G string

That old yamaha looks pretty nice as well, I like the older acoustic guitars as they generally have had time for the wood to open up and really let the sound out of the box

Guild. it’s all i want, it’s all i need. Guild.

My brother has two Taylors, my Dad’s had a few … they’re cool, but I don’t think they deserve the price tag they get.

Me, I’m not partial to any brand, actually. My only preference is that the guitar I use be cool-lookin and play good, that’s it.

Actually my Ibanez acoustic is rather ordinary looking, but it plays great at least.

I played that Godin electric last night again - God, I love that guitar. My wife bought it for me for my birthday a few years ago. That sounds so cool when I say that.

When am I gonna post pictures though??! God!
