Guyute

Hey, I was just wondering what people’s favorite Guyute performances were? I have a few versions, but nothing spectacular. Thanks.

Merriweather Post 8-8-98. Straight outta’ SNEAKIN’ SALLY!!! Gooood show; gooood version.
The Second set features a nice sweet TELA as well as a smokin’ SEXUAL HEALING by the great Bob Weaver.

I haven’t heard a GUYUTE I didn’t like, actually…

12-30-97, MSG I like it mostly because you hear the crowd just plain flip out when trey says that they’re gonna play it…a good crowd reaction usually makes any song that much better

That is a classic show, Icculus! Good version of Guyute, too!

This is going to sound like a really weak choice, but I am going to have to pick Trey Anastasio’s version at Bonnaroo last year. He did it with the entire orchestra, without lyrics of course. But anyways, I just feel that Guyute was made to be played by a huge score of musicians. NOT that I dislike the Phish versions, they are also great, but the limits are stretched to a certain degree.

As far as Phish shows, I will have to agree with 8-8-98. Every section is nailed perfectly.

I like the 7/15/98 version for the banter and messed up ending, but I think the best version I’ve heard is the one that opens the second set of 12/29/94. Not only is it flawless as far as I can tell, but it opens a set that would birth THE BOWIE.

i love that show so much.

I can’t remember if its 11/16 or 11/21/95 but the one where Trey clears up any confusion and announces that the name of the song is Guyute. Regardless, they go on to play a right smokin version that must have been a real treat.

12-30-96 Fleetcenter. Very underrated show IMO too!

It’s funny, but as I think it over, I can safely say that my favorite Guyute is the album version.

then again, I usually steer clear of that song…

The LEMONWHEEL version from 8-16 is pretty damn epic. Listened to it yesterday while watching the Sun set…

I was also listening to that yesterday while I played a round of disc golf. I actually lost my disc in the trees right when the jam began, and finally right after the jam segment ends my disc appears… cosmic.

We both were listening to LEMONWHEEL yesterday? Eeeeerie…

Both days are in my car for the morning & afternoon commute. I will have listened to the full weekend twice this week by tomorrow!

I actually just found entire spindle of discs I thought I lost while moving between houses. On the top of one of the sets was the entire Lemonwheel. I have been groovin’ to those for about 2 weeks, also been rocking with the 94 Red Rocks shows. Whew, it was like my birthday getting all that music.

guyute? arent they all the same…? :-X :-X :-X

i mean it is a composed song for the most part…most versions are fairly identicle i think…

then again, what the hell do i know?

I think one of the things to make it a “great” Guyute is how well the band pulls off each section. The better the band performs it, the tastier it is to my ears!

meh…

sowwy :-*

its just one of those thangs…

i know you got songs (regardless of the band) that you “just dont dig”…ya know?..

like i said…one of those things.

12/30/97 MSG I love this guyute. I was just listening to it and it occured to me there was a thread about this so i will share my thoughts with the rest of the community.

least fav. the one on like phish vol 17 (i think) where trey doesn’t get to do his solo so they take it from the end. I love trey as much as the next, don’t get me wrong, but i don’t think that he really needed to do that end solo. I love trey.

My favorite is 12/29/94 just before that raging Bowie. Very clean. A definite favorite in my collection.
