It is face-melting good!
Gotta love the “Reba” whistling over the “Maze” intro!
this one def rips. very crisp too. thanks!
Cool.
Glad you dug it.
Definitely one of the best AUD’s out there.
a
Love the “Stairway To Heaven” guitar lines during Maze!
This show gets dogged all the time but it is one of my favorites from Summer '97.
On paper, the setlist looks like garbage, but the show is TIGHT all the way through.
If you haven’t heard this in a while I recommend that you pull it out on it’s
tenth anniversary.
They take the “back door” into this Free and the Wolfman’s is FUNK.

I haven’t heard a single thing from that show. So I have never said anything definitive about it…I usually say “I heard this show is…”.
But I will check out the “Wolfman’s -> Free!”
I guess I could listen to the whole show and give an actual opinion…
I like your description of the segue into free. Good pick for today!
this stash is fantastic! man i haven’t been listening to the boys lately but this is reeling me in… hooooooaaaah!
Sweet!
a
just finished up set 1. nice tight playing throughout! a little rust from trey during it’s ice, but nothing too bad. gumbo was the clear highlight of the set for me…really nice jam! i almost enjoyed it as much as 7/29. it was also nice to hear lizards and ice again. cool little jam in it’s ice! night and day compared to the last version played in brussels on 2/14.
i had the worst headache at this show, definitely put a damper on my overall experience. i’ll report back after set 2…
It’s nice to be swimmin in all this deep water with the Fish! Or something like that!
thanks for the 8.8.97 snippet.
downloading now…
Damn!
At the 7-minute mark of that file the band settles into a sickeningly (wow typing that word was a trip) tight funk groove.
This show can’t be all bad, or nearly as bad as some have said.
edit: another tight as fuck groove at 12-13 minutes
ok so set 2 was solid. i thought the wolfman’s ~> free was great! they totally take the back door…great description a! ;D did anyone pick up on the subtle crosseyed & painless tease trey pulled out in free? the limb by limb jam was mellower than normal…very nice! caspain and lovin’ cup were pretty straight forward. chalk dust freakin’ raged!!! and the sugar blue encore was icing on top. good show, but i’d still rank it behind the shows they’ve played so far this tour…which is still very good since every show on this tour is a must have imho.
indeed a sick segue!!
Three years ago (seems like much longer) The Phish kicked off their Final Tour EVAR.
This meaty Chalkdust from Hampton showed much promise for the remaining dates but we all know what happened after this set was over.

And nine years ago, one of the best and classiest encores they ever did.
The crowd’s reaction always gives me chills, no matter how many times I hear this.

Yeah, I’m not sure if I’ve ever heard a crowd reaction like that.
Goosebumps.
I’ll have to check out that “Chalkdust,” too!
Ten years ago, one of the longest and funkiest Cities went down.
Unfortunately, this show also spawned the infamous “urinating in the ears of their listeners” review.
Great Cities, though.
