thats when you get it up here in Jersey, and that is a probationary license which has restrictions such as, you can’t have more than one kid in the car thats your age, unless they are siblings, you can’t drive between i think 12:00 - 5:00 am, some other stupid things, then when you turn 18 i think all those stipulations go away.
in NJ the driving system has 3 different basic automobile (CAR!) licenses…
First at 16, a person takes the written drivers test, and with a grade of 80%+ you get a drivers license permit and can drive with an adult 21+(MUST HAVE 3 YEARS DRIVING EXPERIENCE AND A VALID LICENSE)
at 17 you go to the dmv and take the road test, like a did today, and basically drive around in a circle and parallel park. I borrowed a Civic, and passed easily. This gets you the provisional license ( not probationary, though it coulda been that years ago) and the rules are one passenger allowed (those who live at the same residence as you are exempt) and you can only drive from 5am-12am, and you’re not supposed to drive out of state
then at 18 you go back to the dmv, with $24 renewal charge, and retake your picture and get the restricted license without any bs restrictions.
then at 21 you get the unrestricted which is the same license but w/o the ‘‘under 21 until //****’’ shitt
i renewed my liscence last year and they sent me a new one with the same picture from when i was 16. It’s valid but a lot of times liqour store clerks and police officers think i’m lying to them. So when i have an address i’ll get a brand spanking new one.
wow that’s a whole heap a horseshit you gotta go through just to get a drivers licence these days eh?
for me it was driver’s training @ 15 which gives you a permit. you were only allowed to drive if you were with a parent or legal guardian. at 16 you take a written test and bing bang boom, here’s yer licence. have fun.
^maybe that’s not the best way, come to think of it.
