Got a really cool birthday surprise at lunch. Remember when I started this new job I became friends with this guy who had a bit part in the first Star Trek movie and then wrote this book about changes in the cast of television shows:
Well he offered to buy me lunch today for my birthday and then proceded to present me with a hardcover edition of his book which he enscribed for me over lunch. This hardcover edition of his book retails for like ninety bucks, and although I know he pulled it from a small private stock, I was nonetheless extremely honored by the gesture. We’ve gotten to be good friends by constantly saving one another from the stresses at work by getting together throughout the day in short spurts to spit TV and movie trivia back and forth at one another, stepping into character whenever the line fits. He basically beats me up every time because he has such a wealth of information in his memory, but the friendship that’s been formed from our banter is both honest and tremendously enjoyable.
Not a bad day so far at all.
