My big brother Matt played a gig with our friends Christopher Dale, and Colleen & Justin of The Grass Gypsies. I’m in northern RI, and they were in Boston, so I had a drive to do and I fear driving Boston just a little. Rightfully so, too, I got good n’ lost. I took off by myself after dinner with just a google map and a car. And a prayer. And a wing maybe.
So I missed the first act (which was my brother and Christopher Dale), but man was I glad to catch the Grass Gypsies. Check them out, seriously … they’re just this traveling couple, and they’re very good. I was so grateful that I got to catch their set … I sat right in front and just relaxed so so much. It was a chance to be reflective and meditative after a confusing drive.
During my drive I was starting to feel stupid for even trying to go. I was lost, and late, and I felt like I took off on my wife after she – check this out – she hooked me up with a grilled salmon/corn on the cob/cold beer/homemade bday cake meal before I left. I’m starting to cry just thinking about … about how delicious a salmon can really be. I mean, about my beloved bride and her beautiful gift of food to me, as I stopped home between work and a show.
But once I was there I was incredibly glad that I didn’t give up and head home … what a great venue, a great show. Good friends and good times.
I was also invited to perform, so I did three tunes myself. The room was full and attentive, so that was kind of a gift too.
Good times, man. A great birthday.
