i know i’m really late in responding…

i was the The Great Went. prior to driving up we caught the pair at Deer Creek. i don’t remember if they did a “lights out” at DC or not but either way when Hood kicked in at the Went we all knew the lights were going down. it had already been an amazing evening… after set 1 the threat of rain eased into a hazy soft lilac and pink twilight that had some streaky clouds and was the perfect setting for the hangglider during set break.

as dark fell the sky seemed to clear up more, but still with some patches of high clouds. being a festy, even with the stage lights out there was still light from the surrounding concessions, but not distracting. the moon was high and small and very white. hard to gauge the moonlight with the surrounding light i mentioned. plus, they put up a close up shot of the moon on the video boards.

the first glow stick war started almost immediately when the lights went out… the first moments a small number but they just seemed to keep growing in quantity. it really only took maybe a minute to reach a frenzy of countless glowsticks going every which way. we had chosen to watch the set back a ways on page side where the crowd started to thin out, so we could see the entire event. this, especially, was amazing with the lights out. the glowstick wars at IT and Coventry may have been bigger, but with the stage lights out your eyes had really nothing but the glowsticks to track. it was incredible. and at least our little group had no idea it was coming. minds blown.

^Possibly my favorite moment ever at a show

And I’m sure to be gettig a Hood at one of the three shows I see in a few weeks. I can’t get by any part of a tour without at least one. Sometimes two.

Is there video of the great went hood glow stick war? I’ve never found it on the internet. Anyone shoot footage themselves?

who knows if it’ll ever be liberated, but you gotta figure the crew that filmed Bittersweet Motel got it on film, and then you’d also hope the cameras that were showing the band on the vid screens were also recording at the time…

but amazingly no i’ve never come across any fan-shot footage of it.

2x posting britches…

yeah its hard to disagree, especially since this is one that enough people were there to witness it and confirm it REALLY HAPPENED

i had seen glowsticks before… actually glowrings. at the Palace 95 people made a giant chainlink of them across the back of the upper level then altogether tossed it down to the lower. but never anything like the glowstick war, and like i said it was TOTALLY UNEXPECTED, so it was totally mindblowing

^Nice! Thanks for taking a moment to posts your memories. That is exactly what I was looking for when i asked the question. I know I am very jealous of moments like these (stupid mid 80’s birthday)…

Something about the idea of a hood in the dark of night with the moon above (either at the gorge or in a fest setting) gives me chill bumps. Things such as this are a component of the reason that I love this band.

I agree. To me, Hood seems suited much better for the outdoors.

Something about Trey’s playing in 94 Hoods seems…restrained. Like there’s a lot of music that wants to come out of him but his fingers can only move so fast. 7/16/94 will demonstrate this. Am I too ambiguous here?

this song is soooooo good…love it! :sunglasses:

Gotta say it was really nice to NOT hear the Hood being yelled by so many people during the Bonnaroo set  just sayin’…as for this version, it’s pleasing, not bad at all, nice work by Trey and everyone is just flowing wit each other! I don’t mind the ->Light, because they at least stayed together even if it was out of left(right?) field Trey

I don’t think the segue into Light was really out of left field. They did it at the Austin City Limits festival too.

And I got to see that ! wooop! I meant at the time it may have been unexpected…not sayin’ it hasn’t been done before cuz it has, just when they were playing it I expected them to finish butt the Hood->Light does not disappoint.

Here is a link to a (shitty) cover of Harry Hood my friend and I did. We haven’t practiced it a lot but the jam is pretty good! Enjoy (or dont)

I play guitar and he does the flute and violin.

Thanks for the music Drew. I must say, I enjoyed the use of the flute and violin in this tune. Very unexpected!

Summer 2014

Caught 2 Harry Hoods so far this past summer and I must say, Harry Hood is an amazing composition as well.

For the longest time, it was my favorite Phish tune, before it was replaced by my current (and probably forever) favorite, You Enjoy Myself.

I rarely sing along to Phish tunes live, but I can never resist a “Thank You Mr Hood” and a “I feel Good” at the end (just one though).

Cause it’s so easy to feel good about hood.
