Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - *SPOILERS*

^Thats okay, you are forgiven. Next time the all-time best selling book comes out that was 10 years in the making don’t forget to post a spoiler for those of us who were a little slow. Till then I’ll lock you in shackles in my basement.

I got my copy today from good ole walmart for $18.78. I felt like I was buying a pirated book off the black market.

^Jesus, I got mine for $10.15 from Toys R Us!

^Well screw you buddy! :stuck_out_tongue:

Hey dmakron you should post this thread has spoilers in the title or something so somebody else, a guest or whoever, doesn’t read the thread and have the book ruined like you ruined it for me. Thats how you correct your laziness. Hop to it!

I might seriously be the only person on the planet who has not seen any of the HP or Star Wars movies (HP books included).

Lord of the Rings, either.

Oh well.

^Well your missing out on some fantastic nonsense!

I finally started reading. Up to the 4th chapter!

^Are you sure or did the muslims ban the book from their countries?

Icc you have to let go of your aggression. People are allowed to disagree.

Oh good… I thought you were going to get Batman to hurl that bomb of his in my general direction. Batman the TERRORIST!!! :stuck_out_tongue:

You know… people misunderstood the batman too… thought he was gay with those tights and “utility” belt.

btw HP is great. I completely forgot what happened in the last book but as I read the new one my memory slowly kicks in… slowly.

I read the Wheel of Time and yes there are certainly some slow parts…there’s no doubt…I read the entire tenth book and swore that nothing happened in the entire thing. Personally I don’t even view it as a legit fantasy book. Yes it’s set in a fantasy land with magic and all that but it’s so much more about the interactions and politics between lands and characters. It’s good stuff. I’ve heard he’s basically going to end the whole thing in the next book no matter how long it’s got to be since he’s got this rare protein disease.

Other than that, I’m not big into fantasy books. I feel like the Potter thing is kind of cheesy but at least it’s got kids these days actually reading books so who could complain?

And no…I haven’t seen any of the Potter movies. Actually I kind of half-saw some of the first one since I was playing on a computer at the same time and the stuff I saw gave me a headache.

Stevo

Finished it over the weekend, thought it was great. One of the best.

It just really sucks that it’s over and I don’t get to wait for the next one to come out…

You mean that the Epilogue didn’t satisfy you forever?

wow, i bought mine at Heathrow airport in london because i read the 6th book in africa and couldnt wait to get to the states to start on this one… oh and the cover is different too, damn brits…

but anyway, holy shit, what a great way to end the septology… i was nearly crying at the end, i couldnt believe some of the answers to the old questions… but damn i’m happy the way everything turned out.

and the 19 years after, had me smiling the whole scene

good for Harry Potter

dont’ get me wrong i do like the series, but it is the same storyline everytime.
harry has trouble at home.
harry goes to school.
some type of problem arises.
voldemort causes problems.
harry and his friends w/or without the aid of dumbledorf solve problem.
hogwarts is saved.
harry goes home for the summer.

^it would be different. like i said i do enjoy the series, but i have never invested myself in these like i had with LOTR.

see thats the thing i never finished LOTR so i can say i know the full experiance… and while old Tolky sure has an amazing story that had me hooked the first 2 books… i seemingly got caught on harry and his ongoing story…

actually i feel the need to reread every book and watch teh first 5 movies again

There’s nothing too brilliant with the books, but yet I seem to keep going back to them (as does everyone else). Everyone keeps comparing them to LOTR, and I have no idea why, just because there’s magic involved? They aren’t as brilliantly written as LOTR, but they were written with teens in mind, so it’s not going to be as “brilliantly written” as the LOTR books, but maybe that’s where the brilliance in the HP books lies…

Spoiler

I finished the other night in a swirl of reading, couldn’t put it down till I was done. Once I read “The Prince’s Tale” I was just blown away and had to see how it ended. I think Miss JK did a fantastic job at illustrating what it is to be a coward and what it is to be brave. Snapes story touched my heart and he was very brave. Harrys selfless act of giving his life was ultimately rewarded. I think this shows that when we put others in front of our own needs the result is happiness, a win/win… But the effort needs to be genuine and then it is a true act of bravery and self-sacrifice. Only then can such rewards be reaped. Who among us has such bravery and depth or heart? Such goodness is rare in this world but it is there and should be venerated, respected. It is very hard to act in that manner because, just as the story indicated, it appeared as Harry was truly heading for his own self-destruction… the destruction of ego if you will. But he was brave and his concern for all others outweighed his own attachment to his self, his own needs. He could’ve easily gave up and went into hiding for the rest of his life to save his self but he did the brave thing, without knowing he would ultimately survive. It was fantastic.

On another note I was Confunded by only one detail… which is a key thing actually but can’t seem to reason it out… How and why was Draco the true master of the Elder Wand? I understand Dumbledore was the master… then Harry became its master when he overpowered Draco but why was Draco the master after Dumbledore died?

Buster? Sloth? Dmakron? McNulty?

SPOILERS

^I didn’t think Draco was the master…? Was he? Damn, I don’t really remember…

I thought Harry was the true master of it in the end? It went back and forth… I know I understood it when I read it, but now I’m fuzzy on it. So, I’m sorry, but I can’t help you there.

Buster pp743 from the top.

Edit: I got the answer from a friend… forgot about this part…

“In the previous book, it was Draco that did expelliarmus on Dumbledore, causing Dumbledore to give up his wand…”

Is that before or after he got beat by Rocky?
