From what I know, yes. People have had their tix cancelled for this.
I’ve definitely given people shit for scalping for too much money!
Yes, I believe people have notified Phish about scalpers.
But think of it this way:
- The scalper buys the tickets for face, then advertises them for over face value
- Someoe notifies Phish about it
- A fan pays for the tickets as advertised for above face (their fault, I know)
- The scalper gets their above face money
- Phish cancells the tickets, and refunds the cost -$7 to the sclaper
- The fan arrives at the show, and is turned away becuase the tickets have been cancelled w/o their knowledge (do we really think a scalper is gonna notify the buyer that they tickets were cancelled, and refund their money? Doubt it)
So, the fan who paid above face loses out not only on his cash, but the show. The scalper makes out not only by getting a refund for their tickets, but by also getting the above face value from fan.
I don’t know how you would even check to see if the tickets were still legit prior to getting to the door and hoping you get a green light rather than a red light (and are turned away).
The process sounds good, but…if I were a scalper, I’d almost hope that my tickets got cancelled. The $7 they keep for proccessing would be made up 20 fold by the additional money the fan paid me for it.
And in the end…what’s the fan gonna be able to do about it?
Just my $.02
^100% Right…It’s still lose-lose for the fan…
DO NOT USE SCALPING SITES, USE OHKEEBAY!!!
We help each other around here, all my tix came from OKP last year… ![]()
I’ve got a
for you Errand for using OhKeeBay
and i got a
for those you got your tix from.
Just another reason OKP is the 2nd best place on earth! (#1 being a Phish show
)
100% agreed, I got 5 tickets for summer tour through OhKeeBay and spent $240.
I have sold a stub on OKEEBAY for less than face AND i have gotten stubs that way too…works almost every time…there are some really great people around here for sure…don’t support scalping ![]()
I support OHKEEBAY… Oh and I got tickets from this place before too…
Scalping ='s bad…
I will sell anything extra I have for my real cost, face plus stupid charges etc…
See you this summer!!! 2010 PHISH!
I saw a scalper ALMOST get arrested in Miami. Then the cop told him to leave so he just walked 50 feet away and continued his business. But that one cop tried, I guess.
My favorite is when scalpers don’t predict a show not selling out, and are forced to try and sell for less than face. Although I’m still a bit torn between cutting their losses and scoring a ticket for less than face…Normally my greed gets the better of me…
^I think I’d buy a ticket from anyone if it was legit and it was under face.
But I refuse to pay over face for a ticket or sell a ticket for over face. I’d rather skip a show than pay over face. In my opinion, some head who gets an extra to pay his way to telluride or fund his nug stash is just as bad as any shady 2-bit scalper. It’s amazing how quickly greed sets in when you’ve got an extra to a sold out show. There were total Phish Heads (REAL phishheads!
) trying to get $200 for their extra Red Rocks tix last year. That’s just shameful.
^Yes, Sir!!
“If you are found to be reselling, TRADING or brokering tickets that you purchased through our site for profit, Phish Tickets may at its discretion cancel your ticket order and all other pending orders in your name.”
Maybe I’m missing something, but what is the problem with trading tickets?
Seriously, am I being shortsighted?
^ key phrase is “for profit” I believe…like you trade a ticket for a ticket and 20 bucks…therefor making 20 bucks off the trade…seems like that would be near impossible to catch somebody doing that…
^ Any deal done offline is basically impossible to catch, no?
As for those done online, there should be more invested in cracking down. If they just cracked down on stubhub then the whole scalping deal would fall apart. Imagine, they catch like 200 scalpers just by buying tickets and cancelling them. After a little people would stop buying tickets on stubhub, and then people would stop scalping on stubhub. As for real life, there’s gotta be some way to do it…
I think it’s just the name of the game. I have no problems paying face value for a ticket. I always find it funny to see scalpers outside of a show/event scalping tickets for more than face value to a show/event that’s not even sold out! They always say “but these a really good seats!”…fuck off
how does ohKeeBay work? is it an auction system like ebay?
YES!!!

Ohkeebay is the ticket (and other item) trading/selling forum here at the 'Pa. It’s face-value only, so no bidding, just face+fees.
