Has the Chat Feature Hurt the Pa?

It is kinda weird that there is a full on Fall Tour discussion going on in the chat right now while the actual thread remains at 2 replies…

^ I posted there!

Breaking tour news and show-time streams are permissible instances of chat use.

We better kick everyone out of chat and make them post then… :wtf:

Doojer was just making a good point. We used to post when tours were announced (i.e. Hampton 2009 and Summer 2009)…Just saying.

I fully understand the point, I was just sayin as well and having been on this board for a long time, I know the posts would be flying, with many one word or one sentence posts. The chat might if anything ‘filter’ some of the smaller posts out I guess but why is that a bad thing?

All is good in the Hood, just great conversation in the posting area!

Edit, ‘WE’ used too? I still do anyway!

Yeah, I really do like the old school, slower communication filter that message boards/threads provide…

I was in the chat earlier, and they were talking dirty about your mother. I told them to stop but they said they didn’t care.

^That was me, I confess. Sometimes I get carried away. Your mother is a lovely woman.

This thread seems to have generated some posts. I guess the key to spurring posting is divisive threads that every member has an opinion on. Idea for the future: Yo mama is…oops, lost myself, sorry.

Yeah, I LOL’d too.

It’s strange that most of the folks who don’t use the chat at all have so quickly decided that the mere existence of the chat room somehow made threads disappear… especially when many of the people using the chat regularly were never big participants in the threads to begin with.

I know some of you old-timers probably yearn for what seems like the Golden Age of OKP - which is understandable - but I think the changing of the dynamic in any online community has more to do with the people in that community than the communication mediums available.

I also think it’s retarded that a site that is based on Phish fans interacting would remove or restrict the ways that those fans are allowed to interact.

+1 post!

I’ve never used the chat feature before, for one due to access to a computer and finding the time, so I usually just log in during the day read some posts and post myself from time to time(note to self: Post more)
Also With being fairly new to the board and not knowing anyone I don’t want to intrude on someone’s conversation. When I’m on facebook checking messages and someone wants to chat with me it usually goes like this: Hi
me-Hi
How are you?
me-good
What’s been going on?
me-work,phish
(pause)
cool, so things have been good?
me-(quick log off-)

That being said the chat should be available to those who want to use it, but it shouldn’t be available for just anyone to see.

chat on…

Glenn, you rock! I had a good chuckle there, now get out and see some live music!

Hmmm…I gotta strongly disagree with this. I enjoy watching conversations sometimes without jumping in. Not that I am e-evesdropping, but we have some very smart, articulate and stimulating individuals engaging in some fantastic conversation in the OKP chat. I think that guests on the site should be free to see this, it may inspire them to join and start drinking the Kool-Aid!..afterall what do we have to hide? If you have something that is private, there is a feature called “Private Message”. Just my thoughts

Ironically, that’s how a lot of us got started using the chat room - those of us who joined in the last year or so and didn’t really know many people kind of ended up in there, shooting the shit and getting to know one another (which is far easier in real-time conversation), and it sort of stuck. Never worry about intruding, just stick your head in and say hi… most people are pretty nice. (Not me, but everyone else is.)

A community like OKP that’s been around for a while is by nature pretty insular, and it can be intimidating for some people to try and integrate themselves into a network of long-established relationships like many have here. The chat room was a nice alternative for those of us newbie types to get to know other new(er) members.

How many times does it need to be posted that the chat isn’t going anywhere.

I guess this is just another thread that ended up going nowhere. :unamused:

^It did go somewhere…

Did it not?

^ It did phishinsky…I was being sarcastic on a post that SuperJay has seemed to edit.

I nominate this for best thread ever

You obviously have not seen the classic timmyskells “im really high but my water is escaping through my glass” thread.

:smiling_imp:
