I agree with you in general, but read Barb’s first post in this thread, and then read Glenn’s response to her again - I think you’ll see that’s not always true.

And Ed, my man, this has nothing to do with not having a spine or whatever. Nobody’s “afraid” of internet people; the effective question being asked was “why aren’t more people posting?” Again, see Glenn’s responses in this thread - there’s one reason right there. If you were at a house party, just relaxing and having a good time, would you stay in a room where some dude talked to you like Glenn talked to Barb? Or would you leave that room and go into another where the people were a little more mature, laid-back, interesting and fun to talk to?

I still don’t get how people using the chat hurts people who don’t use the chat, but it’s like Brett said - Sharks in the chat, Jets on the forums, I guess. :sunglasses: :laughing:

In some ways the chat has hurt the pa. for instance, i know i have posted stuff in chat that I would have otherwise made a thread out of. questions, comments etc. I doubt I’m the only one who has done that. further, things that are discussed and posted in chat are lost to the whole board unless you happen to be in chat when it was posted. you can always go back and read a whole thread but the chat gets lost. so in these ways the content of the whole board has suffered, somewhat.

second point is the forum can exist without the chat but the chat without the forum? … its just IM at that point.

but in chat’s defense there is all that good stuff of getting to know people in real time etc… having an actual conversation… even tho its thru a cyber filter. there seems to be more sharing of info on the chat… people seem to be a little more open… I mean a message board is a from of communication one step further away from each other than the chat… chat is like one degree away from say… a phone call… and phone call one step away from meeting in person… type thing. so the chat is a mixed bag of blessings and poop.
