help me do this

so my buddy (and bandmate) recently began showing the teensiest, tinsiest reluctant bit of interest in a couple phish songs. they are: Free, Wading and Farmhouse (with nods to Bouncing and Maze). so i recently i bought him the “holy trinity” (billy, ghost, farmhouse). i told him to injest them slowly, so as to carefully assimilate the full effect of the sheer power. i told him to listen to them as he would a beatles album, or his most prescious ryan adams. anyway, i’m also putting together live renditions of all three albums so once he starts feeling the studio versions, his face can be blown the fuck off. i began with re-creating Ghost. the tracklisting goes as such:

ghost 11/17/97
birds of a feather 7/15/98
meat 8/11/98
guyute 10/05/00
fikus 8/01/98
shafty 4/05/98
limb by limb 10/05/00
frankie says 8/16/98
brian and robert 10/06/00
water in the sky 12/30/97
roggae 7/19/98
wading 10/07/00
moma dance 8/03/98

and i included “saw it again” from 9/30/00 to round out the ghost-trilogy, and also because there’s no live “end of session”.

so what i’d like you guys to do, if you would like, is to give me suggestions for good renditions of the songs on the other two albums. think them up as if you were making them for yourself. i love seeing/hearing the different tastes of all of you. i don’t own a whole shitload of shows, that’s why i ask. i love Phish, but you are the pros here! ;D

anyway, thanks in advance!

No specific suggestions, but I did make this mix (three discs) for a friend to help him get into phish, i think the songs reflect the band in different eras, both in and out of the studio. So if it helps, here it is:

^yup, i’ve heard that! that free is something else! that would be perfect if you wanna seed it. i’ll send you a PM. thanks fellers for the feedback so far ; )

I know you asked for input on the other two albums, but I’d switch the Meat from 8-11-98 to 11-13-98. As someone said in the individual song discussion: “The Meat to end all Meats.”

p.s.
Shit, that was you!

:o

^yeah, i wish i had that one. i had to go on what i already have, and what i could dwnld off nugs. but as of last night, torrent is finally within my greedy little reach (evil laughter)!

so, ghost is done (w/ some less than completely stellar versions, but oh well).
billy is on it’s way…
let’s get some good Farmhouse suggestions!

  8. Piper 1998-04-03
  9. Sleep 1998-10-17
  10. Inlaw Josie Wales 2000-07-14
  11. Sand 1999-09-11
  12. First Tube 2000-10-07

what about back on the train from 2/28/2003…?

^ah, good call. that’s a scorcher.

12/09/99 Farmhouse opener as well. that one smokes.

i’m also thinkin the 12/06/97 Piper. don’t know why i didn’t automatically consider this one, as it’s my all time favorite.

hell, the Twist from the same show is titties as well!

^ooooo damn i forgot about that INSANO twist->piper. absolutely ridiculous!

Hmmm, good old skool topic here…

The slow tunes get 'em every time (for me anyways).

But you must be careful not to overdo it and bore them with slow tunes. It’s a very tough process, but if done correctly it will work beautifully.

I would go with what Will posted. But if you don’t get that from him Billy Breathes (album) is always a great selection. I just played it for someone today to try and get them into Phish and it may have worked!s
