i know this is like the best site to use but its so damn confusing. thats why i use nugs-its simple. can someone give some advice on any programs i need to dowlaod, and also maybe advice on a program that degrades the bigger files to mp3. also, are mp3’s the only thing you can burn to a cd. thanks a bunch for all the help!
All right, to download you need a bittorrent client, a lot of people use Azureus, but I prefer utorrent http://www.utorrent.com/.
Second, to decompress shn songs use mkw http://etree.org/mkw.html follow the instructions exactly, to decompress flac songs use flac http://flac.sourceforge.net/download.html. These programs decompress the song into wav files, shn, flac, and wav are all lossless audio meaning what you hear is exactly how it’s meant to be heard, as opposed to lossy mp3. But note that the wav will be significantly larger than the flac or shn.
And lastly, depending on what software you use you can burn shn or flac, but all software should burn mp3 and wav.
I think that’s it.
we should pin this one… it seems to come up a fair bit. or maybe we could just start a faq section.
thanks alot for the help. i should get hands my hands on some more material now. you guys rock
do you self a favor - head over to etree and make your first download the 1.1.76 meters show that just came up. its a sbd from the prime days of funk. only one disc so its a quick download but it has a 20 minute ain’t no use encore that smokes.
No no man…type in Gamehenge to the search file…There is a cool gamehenge 3 disc compliation that some dude put together…I haven’t heard it yet, but it seems like a pretty cool idea…In fact I might just post a thread about this.
Listening to the Gamhenge disc, and it rocks!
Totally awesome song picks, great flow, you NEED it.
i used utorrent but, as i sortve expected, it is taking incredibly long. are all bit torrent clients slow. ive heard rumors of some being around 300kbs while mine is around 35. i have new computer and cable connenction. any other options?
it all depends on the number of seeders, leaches, and whether people are firewalled. (the client shouldn’t make that much difference) if you are picking shows that have either been up for a while, or were just seeded, thats about what you’ll expect for speed. its best to just pick some shows out at night, or before you head to work, and they’ll be done when you return.
just make sure your share ratio is up near 100%… it makes everything faster when people seed as long as possible. set your mkw so that it doesn’t delete the files during conversion and you’ll be able to burn it while it is still seeding.
(btw 35 is common but when there’s 25 plus seeders i can hit 500kbs)
When using utorrent, make sure there that it says “network okay” on the bottom to the left of the upload and download speeds, if it says “NAT error” then your firewall or router is slowing down the transfer. after i fixed my NAT error, my speeds jumped from 50kbs to 150kbs
ah yes. that is the problem thanks. also my download has been but it keep suploading a ton. is that right?
What? ???
sorry, UPLOAD was the correct spelling of that word. i think it finally stopped but it uploaded like 1.3 Gigs. is that right? also, i downloaded it in flac then compressed it with monkeys audio. does this take away sound quality. sorry for being such a newb.
If you keep your window open, it will continue uploading. The polite thing to do is to upload for as long as you can after you finish downloading. And monkey’s is lossless, just like flac and shn, so you won’t lose any quality.
paranoid you have been quite help to me and i appreciate it a bunch. thanks
how long should it take to get a show?
completely depends on your connection/firewall on or off/pc. but definently longer than you are used to probably if youve been dl’ing off nugs/lma. but it is SO worth it.
I’ve already stickied a topic called BUILDING YOUR COLLECTION that gives download sites and such advice, actually. But everybody needs to PORT FORWARD to get maximum download speeeds. I cannot stress this enough:
Someone help me. I know there are countless guides and faqs and all that, but I still can’t figure this all out. I have Azureus, but stuff still won’t download. Can one of you kind people give me a hand, with it all. Thanks.
1 - Pick a show
2 - Download the .torrent file (either by clicking on this image
or entering the torrent’s info page and clicking the link to the right of the word “Torrent”)
3 - You’ll be prompted to download or open the file, either download the file or choose to open it with azureus (you’ll have to navigate to wherever it’s installed to)
4 - It will ask you where you want to save the show, choose a location
5 - Wait
6 - Leave the torrent running after the download is finished (to share)
(If you have any further problems, please be specific as to where they occur)
