Hettiest Phish Reggae Moments

I welcome a little reggae in a Phish show. Its another great way to balance out a show, a good breather, and its good for dancing. However, sometimes it works and just feels right, and sometimes it awkward and I could totally understand someone saying, “what the hell are these white guys doing playing reggae?”

Like on the 11.6.98 makisupa, they never really find the groove. Its one of those times when you can totally tell the band isn’t hooked up. Fishman, Page and Mike are all doing their own thing. Its almost painful to listen to.

On the other hand, in the 12.14.95 Makisupa, they quickly set into a TIGHT reggae groove, and it sounds and feels fantastic. I LOVE that version!

But, the sole reason I came in here is 4.3.98. I think the reggae breakdown in the third section of this antelope is the best reggae section Phish has ever played, specifically when Mike takes a little solo using that NASTY effect, and Fish belts out an “aye aye aye!” You guys know what moment I’m talking about. That moment is IT for reggae Phish, imo.

Back in good old 99 during the Have Mercy bustout at Oswego, Gordo made reggae history with his licks during the breakdown. Later that year at Redbird Arena Page made my face melt during that SUPA!

A little sloppy, but very humerous and entertaining

(Woohoo! 36 posts. I’ve never been very good at the whole message board thing)

long time no post eh?

Busy year! Moved back east, new job, no computer.
Sorry to be a thread poacher! Carry on OKP

UHH… were in the middle of Makisupa. Not starting Harry Hood, Jonny boy!

“a tail ain’t nothin but a loooooooooong booty, booty ain’t nothin but a butt”

Any tightly played intro to “Slave” or “Hood” will do me just fine!

Yeah, mikes soloing is pretty nasty. The effect he is using is his Meatball pedal. I just got one, and they are incredible.

There’s a super funky reggae opening to one of the Hood’s from Fall '97. Each member takes a little solo before they begin the “Harry!! Harry!!” part.
