6/14 11 am solo gig @ car show in NK RI

Wrote out setlist, inspired by band gig two days prior. Went heavy on originals. Followed pre-written setlist to the tee once onstage.

Reconsider

I count fifteen tunes, six originals - 40%. Not bad I guess. Felt like a courageous ratio at the time.

Played a mid-week bar gig in Jamaica Plain, Boston. I think it was Thursday, right? 6/17 was Wednesday: it was Wednesday.

We did all originals at this gig (we’re getting cocky!), until the encore where we had this weird moment of only being able to think of two songs we know. I wonder if there’s something to that; whatever. We did Scarlet cuz we do a lot of harmonies.

It wasn’t our greatest show, but it was okay … mainly it was crazy because we did all originals. The Tavern show a few posts ago was a better listen IMO. Let me know if anyone wants that recording, that one’s cool.

At the Midway, out of 19 songs performed, we did one cover (Dead), five of my songs*, and thirteen songs by Justin &/or Colleen. Justin and I switch between guitar & bass throughout the show these days. I’m on bass for seven tunes, guitar on 12 I think it is.

12/28/2002 - I played this house party and recorded it, and afterward played this shit on their piano. Sing along if ya know it.

Nice! Sounds great. It brings back memories. Certainly was a crowd pleaser!

Thanks, that recording really came out good, eh? I almost played it right too. People are laughing like it was profitable or something, what a fun listen. Makes me want to practice it again.

So on St Patrick’s Day, we played a single long set @ The Milky Way, and this show has a few nice things goin for it. One, the sound is really really good, the recording’s sweet, drums were mic’d up and there was a proper soundman. Two, the crowd was great. Three, our original drummer filled in for John who was away, and that guy is just a special kind of drummer that I love to hear play.

So I’m sharing this one, hope you enjoy, lots of Irish stuff. Original songs are notated with *Kevin Silvia or **Justin/Colleen Kleya:

BUT WHAT DO THE * MEAN!?

Original songs are notated with *Kevin Silvia or **Justin/Colleen Kleya, says it in there somewhere. You must have had obstructed view during that part, or had a talker in your row, I’m sure. Doesn’t explain the shouting, but I can’t carry the entire weight of it all now, can I.

So here’s a new show, just this past Friday night. It’s a real dance show kinda deal; lots of crowd pleasers and some jamming. The originals still make a fair showing, but nothing like last year’s set takeovers. Very happy with this show, and with the band right now. We got so far to go, but at the same time, shit, we’re working folk w families. Give us a break.

This thread has been around for almost 8 years. I checked it out for the first time recently. I downloaded Porchfest. Kevin, you are awesome. I am sorry that I haven’t been enjoying your tunes this whole time.

Wow thank you so much!! I’m workin’ at it man!

Appreciate the response, and your taking the time!

Got a gig tomorrow w/John and Brian, who used to play with the Grass Gypsys. I will upload if it’s good!

Grass Gypsys tonight at Midway Cafe in Jamaica Plain. Kind of not focused at work today, we’re rolling out two new band members and I’m officially switching to electric from years of live acoustic. Maybe it’ll be great!

edit

It was pretty great! I mean there were definitely flubs, but for first time new lineup, pretty good. New drummer, and first-ever keyboard player for the Grass Gypsys.

When is the OKP Zoom meeting where Kevin plays a song?

That’s not a bad idea haha! Thanks Eli … I actually am still busy with work but have been thinking I should get on that bandwagon and stick a camera on myself. Kind of weird to me but I will probably do something or other. Maybe it’s Zoom or maybe FB live or maybe I post a video on FB?

Meanwhile I do have a new CD that’s not a CD yet because the world got all fucked up right as I was procrastinating putting it in print.

I’d love for you all to hear it, so I’m just gonna drop a download link right here for you to please enjoy heartily. It’s a fun batch of songs I’m proud of, a very short album at about 18:30ish, so maybe about a half size conventional album. Lyrics are in there too, please enjoy =)
